Change seems to be the only constant for Deion Sanders’ Colorado. After a disappointing 2025 season, the Buffs coach hit the “reset button” with sweeping changes to the roster, coaching staff, and offensive identity. And now, ahead of the 2026 season, the Big 12 announces another one to the Buffs’ schedule.

On Friday, the Big 12 announced that the Buffs’ home game against the Houston Cougars has been moved to Friday, Nov. 13, and will be broadcast on national television. The Week 11 matchup at Folsom Field will now take place on Friday night, rather than its original Saturday slot.

However, specific kickoff times and the exact network will be announced by the conference at a later date. But because of this change, Colorado’s Homecoming game has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 3, against Texas Tech. Now, homecoming festivities for the university’s 150th anniversary celebration will run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 3, including a “culture crawl” and the Pearl Street Stampede.

This is the second weekday move for the 2026 season; the Buffs’ season opener at Georgia Tech was previously moved to Thursday, Sept. 3. But this is not the first time in Colorado, because last season several high-profile games were moved to weekdays for prime-time television slots. In 2025, Colorado played the season opener against Georgia Tech and the Week 3 road game at Houston on Friday.

However, these changes could give advantages to Deion Sanders’ Colorado. By moving to a Friday night, the game will be featured in a standalone national broadcast window rather than competing with the dozens of high-profile games typically scheduled for Saturdays. Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark noted that Friday night conference games in 2025 delivered ratings 64% higher than the conference average.

Then, moving the game to Friday provides the team with an extra day of rest and recovery before their next road trip to Cincinnati on Nov. 21. On top of that, Houston is specifically identified by Sanders as a “tremendous recruiting ground” for the Buffs. Now, playing this game on a national stage serves as a targeted advertisement for future talent.

Amidst this positiveness, the Buffs’ head coach is excited about the 2026 season.

Colorado head coach’s take on the upcoming season

After an up-and-down stretch in recent years, Deion Sanders is entering the new season with a noticeably different tone. In short, the Buffs have a clear plan. “I think we’ve gotten better everywhere, starting with me,” said Sanders.

This offseason, Coach Prime leaned heavily into the transfer portal while still adding promising high school talent. Colorado brought in 43 incoming transfers. This transfer class is part of a larger group of 59 newcomers that includes 15 high school recruits and one junior college transfer. Even more telling, the Colorado coach has taken a hands-on role in evaluating every addition to ensure each player fits in Boulder.

But the head coach has also brought changes to the coaching staff. On offense, the arrival of OC Brennan Marion brings creativity and tempo, while DC Chris Marve is installing an aggressive mindset.

“I think you guys are really sleeping on the staff and what they bring to the table. I am elated,” said Sanders with excitement. Now, with these changes, we will see how much success the Buffs can bring this season.
