Georgia’s former running backs are now taking their potential to a wide variety of programs. Roderick Robinson II, one of the first Bulldogs to enter the portal, has found a home in the American Conference.

The RB will now play for the UAB Blazers with two years of eligibility remaining. Over the past 3 seasons, Robinson rushed for a total of 34 times for 221 yards and 2 scores. Injuries spoiled what could have been a great career for him at Athens. This season, he rushed only 6 times for 22 yards.

Robinson started out great in 2023 as a freshman, tallying 24 carries for 196 yards and those 2 TDs. He emerged as the third-leading rusher on the team, having played just 5 games. He was expected to take on a bigger role in 2024, especially since his position as the RB2 was practically guaranteed after Andrew Paul transferred out.

But this potential was limited for almost the entire 2024 season due to Robinson developing turf toe. He was finally cleared to play in the Georgia Tech game. But after putting up 4 carries and 3 yards on the board in that game, Robinson brutally injured his ankle.

Head coach Kirby Smart said during fall camp in 2025 that the blow was “significant” and that the RB couldn’t fully recover. His lack of production saw Nate Frazier emerge as the No. 1 RB, while Chauncey Bowens and Dwight Phillips Jr. also created a name for themselves in the 2025 season.

Roderick Robinson played in 10 games during the 2025 season. He still couldn’t contribute much, finishing with only 6 carries for 22 yards this season. However, it was he who kicked off Georgia’s attack on Alabama in the 2025 SEC Championship game. Towards the end of the first half, the RB caught a 1-yard pass from Gunner Stockton at the goal line.

“That felt so good to me ’cause, like, that’s like my twin,” receiver Dillon Bell said of Robinson’s big moment. “So much stuff that he’s been through with injuries and things of that nature. Just seeing him going out there and get a touchdown in this type of atmosphere, that felt very good to me and the whole team.”

This was a good end to Robinson’s otherwise troubled career as a Bulldog. Now making a fresh start at the G5 level, the RB brings immense potential to Birmingham.

What getting Roderick Robinson II means for UAB

According to Rivals, Robinson was the third- best RB in the 2023 recruiting cycle. His prep career totals 3,786 yards on 417 carries and 52 touchdowns. As a high school senior, he led his team in total points, total touchdowns, and rushing yards. In one game, Robinson rushed for 476 yards and 8 touchdowns on 32 carries, earning him the MaxPreps ‘Star Freak of the Week.’

This elite protection will come in handy for new head coach Alex Mortensen, who lost RB Solomon Beebe to the portal. The RB room is in desperate need of some more experienced hands, since leading rusher Jevon Jackson is out of eligibility. Plus, this unit didn’t fare well in the 2025 season, finishing 87 in the country with 138.67 rushing yards per game.

This will be a fresh start for Roderick Robinson, one that’s hopefully free of injuries. He’ll find easier competition here as well, which he should use to build up those stats on his resume. It’s a step down from the level he used to play at in Athens, but the career risks are far less here than in the SEC.
