Absolutely crushed it tonight! Chicago’s very own Aneesah Morrow made a grand homecoming to the Windy City with LSU, drawing a record-breaking crowd to Credit Union 1 Arena on Thursday night. The atmosphere was electric, and Morrow’s performance on the court made it even more memorable.

From the tip-off, Morrow was an unstoppable force, showcasing her signature dominance. By the end of the game, she had secured her 86th career double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, solidifying her place in the history books.

In the process, she unknowingly surpassed WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike’s longstanding record of 85 career double-doubles at Stanford. But instead of competition, what unfolded was admiration.

After the game, Ogwumike shared her gratitude and excitement. “I’m so proud of you! Congratulations on the 86th double-double machine! Honestly, seeing you grow and expand your game just gives me so much happiness! Keep killing it.” 

Chiney Ogwumike herself praised LSU’s rising star, and why wouldn’t she? Despite playing just 19 minutes, Aneesah Morrow put up an impressive stat line: she shot a stunning 66.7% from beyond the arc, 50% from the free-throw line, and added three assists, four blocks, and two steals to her tally.

Morrow’s all-around brilliance fueled LSU’s dominant 91-73 victory over UIC.

Aneesah Morrow has another reason to celebrate

The LSU Tigers’ senior forward is preparing for a monumental milestone at her high school, Simeon Career Academy. Morrow’s basketball journey took flight in 2020 when she led Simeon to its first-ever girls basketball state championship with an incredible 35-2 record. In recognition of her contributions, the school announced it would retire her No. 24 jersey.

Born and raised in Chicago, Morrow began her rise at Simeon before shining at DePaul University. In 2023, she made the pivotal decision to join LSU, marking a fresh chapter in her career. Thursday night’s game against Illinois-Chicago was her first time competing back in her hometown since that move, making the occasion even more special.

Morrow’s joy was shared with friends, family, and teammates—from elementary school to Simeon, and even her current fifth-ranked LSU squad. Her coach, Kim Mulkey, has been vocal about Morrow’s exceptional talent, calling her a “walking double-double.” Mulkey highlighted Morrow’s relentless rebounding as a standout skill.

“She goes after every rebound with unmatched determination, no matter who she’s up against. Her work ethic is inspiring, and her versatility allows her to dominate both inside and outside the paint,” Mulkey said. “It’s an absolute joy to coach her.”

From leading fast breaks to taking on contact and delivering pinpoint passes, Morrow has showcased her ability to excel in every facet of the game since the beginning.
