Cameron Boozer is proving to be a one-man show for the Duke Blue Devils this season. The freshman is leaving no stone unturned to help his team win the NCAA championship before his probable move to the NBA. His game is getting recognized, but recently, he probably got his best compliment yet from the former legendary Duke Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski himself. However, not everyone is buying into Coach K’s hot take.

Coach K on Cam Boozer:
“He’s the best (freshman)… To me, it’s not close. This kid is so dependable, so poised… He’s had as good a year as any freshman that has ever played here at Duke”

“He’s the best (freshman)… To me, it’s not close. This kid is so dependable, so poised… He’s had as good a year as any freshman that has ever played here at Duke,” said coach K without any hesitation, and that probably pushed his stock even higher.
Well, you can’t argue that when it comes from a coach who has been at the helm of Duke for 42 seasons and saw a fair share of emerging talents up close. Cameron Boozer surely has the numbers that make him a top prospect.
Cam, in his 29 games this season, has averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists per contest. He leads the Blue Devils in all of those categories. So he is truly making himself seem like a contender in every possible way.
Boozer is also touted to be the next top draft pick for the NBA, and so you can’t even argue his case with Coach K. And yet, not everyone feels that the coach has given a fair assessment of the situation.
Fans Not Buying In Coach K’s Views On Cam Boozer
While Coach K is more than happy to bestow the all-time great honors on Cam Boozer, some fans have a different take on the matter.
“He’s not biased at all,” came a sarcastic remark directed at the coach.
Well, it’s natural to have favorites as a player and coach, “K”. Courtesy of his long-time association with Duke has now found someone whom he sees as special. But Boozer has justified his performance as well with his string of highlight reel showdowns, one after the other.
Boozer sits in a commanding position as well, just marginally shy of Dybantsa when it comes to PPG’s, but he has been way more effective for his team, and that is what counts. Now comparisons are also being made to a former Duke great.
“Flagg was clearly the best, but he is very good,” says another commenter.

Well, while Flagg had his own style, Boozer has his own power and athletic prowess to rely on. Both their freshman years were identical, and it’s a back-and-forth kind of thing between the two. While Cam has more points to his name, 22.5 ppg compared to Cooper’s 19.2 ppg, the latter was more accurate with his free throws – Cooper 84.0 – 78.2 Cameron.
So it was pretty even-stevens, but then again, everyone has their own favorites. Even the media had picked its favorite before Cam even joined up with Duke feels a commenter.
“He had it in the bag from day one. The media anointed him, king before he laced them up,” said another commenter.
You really can’t help it when your dad is a basketball legend (Carlos Boozer) himself, and obviously, the interest around you builds because of that. A legend’s son would be as great as he is taken at that point, and he entered Duke as one of the most talked-about freshmen in years.
Cameron became ESPN’s darling overtime and other media outlets also spotlighted Boozer heavily in preseason features, often framing him as the centerpiece of Duke’s future. Cameron became basketball royalty because of his lineage.
“lol even coach K dissing dp,” said a commenter.
Cameron Boozer isn’t the only freshman this year going as a top prospect in the NBA draft. A certain Darryn Peterson’s name is also doing the rounds. So did Coach K choose to take a jab at Darryn Peterson with this comment? Peterson has been very inconsistent with his appearances this season, though his performances have been elite, so maybe that was a snub at the Kentucky combo guard.
Whatever the case may be, it’s difficult to win people over in today’s hard climate, where everyone has an opinion, and no one’s afraid to speak it. As for Cameron Bozzer’s talent, we have all seen what he can do, and now the draft will eventually seal his fate and tell us how the NBA experts perceive him.
