For years, JuJu Watkins set the gold standard at Sierra Canyon. But on a historic night that flipped the script, Dawn Staley’s latest recruit stepped into the spotlight, rewrote the record books, and officially knocked Watkins off the top of the program’s all-time perch.

Sierra Canyon recently retired Watkins’ jersey, making her the first athlete to receive the honor in the high school’s history. However, Jerzy Robinson, who recently committed to the South Carolina College Basketball program, has surpassed JuJu Watkins to become the new all-time leading scorer for Sierra Canyon High School.

Watkins previously held the record, which stood at 2322 points. However, on January 17, Robinson scored 33 points against Long Island Lutheran High School at the Hoophall Classic, taking her Sierra Canyon total to 2355 points. The 5-star recruit has now etched her name in the Sierra Canyon history books and will be hoping to stretch it as much as possible before moving on to college basketball at the Gamecocks.

Jerzy Robinson had recently credited Dawn Staley as one of the big reasons for her decision to commit to the South Carolina Gamecocks, and the fans will be excited to see just how talented a player the Gamecocks will be getting for their Women’s College Basketball team.

Meanwhile, JuJu Watkins opted to commit to the rival USC Trojans and was a standout performer from the start. The Los Angeles-born guard averaged 25.5 points per game over her first two seasons before being ruled out for the entire 2025-26 season. Watkins is not projected to enter the 2026 WNBA Draft, which means we should see both her and Jerzy Robinson play in the 2026-27 NCAAW campaign.

Why did Jerzy Robinson sign with Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks?

All it took was one trip to South Carolina, and Robinson’s future in College Basketball was sealed. The Gamecocks did everything right when it came to hospitality. Despite Robinson landing in Columbia at midnight, the Gamecocks staff ensured the 17-year-old star had the best time during her visit.

While speaking to reporter Michael Sauls of The State, Jerzy Robinson revealed that she felt welcomed, respected, appreciated, and loved in South Carolina, and thus, she decided to join Dawn Staley’s roster.

“I think from the jump, it was great. I got in at around midnight. The whole coaching staff showed up. Dawn, [assistant coach Wendale Farrow], everybody showed up. That stood out to me just from other visits. It was surprising, it’s midnight. It was by far my best visit,” Jerzy Robinson said.
