Things have just taken a turn for the worse for the NBA. With low records being set every single day, game 3 of the NBA Finals between Lakers and Miami Heat set another horrific record.

With the coronavirus pandemic, the season went on hiatus and the NBA franchise came up with a solution to maintain safety and social distancing. This solution was the Orlando Bubble in which fans weren’t allowed physically, but only virtually. The players had to be aloof from the outside world if they wanted to play, and that could be the trigger behind the low ratings.

Who would have thought that the ratings for something fans wait an entire year for will fall down so drastically? This the NBA Finals we are talking about, and each game till now has showcased ratings lower than the one before.

A new low for the NBA franchise

While Sunday night was a breath of relief for the Miami Heat, the NBA franchisee had it’s the worst nightmare. Jimmy Butler’s amazing career-high performance has the Lakers weak in the knees.

They should be extremely cautious about how they plan to play the remaining series. Now that the series is becoming more gripping, one would think the viewership would rise, but that’s the opposite of what’s happening.

Game 3 recorded the lowest ratings averaging 4.396 million viewers only. Not only that, but the previous games were no different and the NBA officials must have gone into panic mode. At this point, you can only wonder how much more the ratings can stoop down?

The numbers are down 45 percent from the previous year’s game 1 to this year’s game 1. The Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors championship battle had recorded 13.51 million viewers.

This is the fourth straight season in which the viewers have dropped majorly, and the reason is still a bit of a question mark.

We can only hope the ratings rise from here onwards. If the Miami Heat gives an even tougher competition to the Lakers, the audience could be more intrigued to watch. What do you think is the reason behind a dip in the viewers each year? What is the NBA doing wrong?
