Former Miami Heat player Caron Butler is going to join Erik Spoelstra’s staff as an assistant coach. NBA insider and AP journalist Tim Reynolds broke the news earlier today.

Kind of a big sports day in Miami. First, Kim Ng to the Marlins. And now ... AP Source: The Miami Heat are hiring Caron Butler as an assistant coach to join Erik Spoelstra's staff.
Heat drafted Butler as the number 10th pick in the 2002 pick. He spent around 2 years in the organisation but stayed close to the front office.
Despite his shorter stint, he had a great impact on Dwayne Wade, who credits Butler for teaching him how to be a professional.
The two-time all-star had a 14-year long career in 9 different teams. He even became a NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks in the year 2011 when they defeated LeBron and Wade lead Miami Heat.
Butler played his last game in the NBA in the 2015-16 with the Sacramento Kings. He later became an NBA analyst.

Caron Butler spent only his first two NBA seasons with the Heat. But his impact? Massive. "Caron taught me everything about how to be a professional," Dwyane Wade told AP in 2017. "He was only in his second year when I got here but he knew a lot." And now he comes home.

Udonis Haslem, who recently announced that he is joining the Heat in a one-year deal, said to the Miami Herald. ‘It’s something that coach Spo and I talked about. It’s something that I had gotten wind of early on and I was on board, man. Not that they needed my blessing, but I was on board. You talk about who we are and what we are and what we embody, Caron Butler is somebody who brought me up under his wing.’
The addition of Caron Butler to the coaching staff of the Heat will be a big plus, given his experience in the NBA.
