Big news is shaking up the Big3! Founded by rap legend Ice Cube, the league continues to be the perfect off-season fix. Fans are already hyped about Dwight Howard’s addition to the league. But this summer’s shaping up to be a must-watch for hoops junkies. If you thought last season was wild, buckle up, 2025 is on another level!

Recently, Chris Hayes, a veteran NBA Insider, shared the exciting news on X about another superstar joining the already stacked list of veterans. He wrote, “Four-time NBA All-Star point guard Kemba Walker has reached an agreement to play for @IceCube ’s @TheBig3 for the 2025 season, league sources tell me.” If his sources are accurate, the league is setting up to have a belter of a season. But this time around, with a name such as Kemba Walker’s.

With the 8x NBA All-Star Dwight Howard already in the Big3 mix, fans all over the country are looking forward to another season of fast-paced 3v3 action.

In light of the recent news of his addition to the Big 3 league, there might be something that may have left a sour taste in his mouth about playing basketball in America. His stint with the Mavericks was forgettable to say the least, inadvertently culminating in his release. Let us see.

What transpired between the Mavericks and Kemba Walker

Kemba Walker’s time with the Dallas Mavericks was short and, honestly, kind of underwhelming. He only managed to play nine times before the team decided to move on. The main reason? The Mavs wanted to prioritize their younger guys, especially McKinley Wright IV, a promising two-way player, and rookie Jaden Hardy, who they’re clearly looking to groom for the future.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Kemba Walker's addition to Big3 outshine Dwight Howard's impact? Who will steal the spotlight?

Have an interesting take?

Now, to be fair, Kemba did have one really memorable outing, a dominant  32-point performance that showed everyone just how talented he is when he gets going. But outside of that, things never really clicked. He struggled to make a consistent impact, with an average of 8.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. And let’s be real, his small stature and ever-persistent knee issues didn’t help. His defense was always a bit lacking, and as he got older and the injuries piled up, it became harder for him to keep up on that end.

Another thing that played into the timing? His contract was about to become fully guaranteed. So, from the front office’s point of view, it made sense to cut ties before that deadline. It wasn’t just about the money, though; they were also being realistic about his health. The knee concerns weren’t new, and they were definitely limiting what he could do on the court. Not helping the team.

All in all, it was a tough break for Kemba. He’s a former All-Star with a lot of heart, but the Mavericks are clearly in a different phase right now, more focused on building up their young core than leaning on a veteran with injury baggage. It’s just one of those situations where timing and fit didn’t quite line up.
