After dispelling rumors about joining JJ Redick’s staff, Derek Fisher finds himself in the headlines again. This time, the issue is far more personal.

“Derek Fisher and Gloria Govan have split but are currently not talking about filing for divorce,” according to TMZ. “Derek and Gloria built a family together and are in constant communication, trying to work through their issues.”

The couple who have been married for five years “are not heading to divorce court … yet.”

In July 2015, they made headlines after a romantic vacation at the Capella in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Fisher then got down on one knee in April 2018 with a $1 million diamond ring, and they went on to marry in July 2021.

This was the second marriage for both Derek and Gloria. Govan was previously married to former NBA star and Fisher’s teammate, Matt Barnes, with whom she shares twin sons. Derek was married to Candace Fisher, and the former couple shares four children.

Fisher and Barnes even had an altercation a decade ago when the latter visited his children, but then announced that there was no longer a feud and that their blended family relationships had improved.

D-Fish is the head coach of the Crespi Carmelite High boys’ basketball team in Encino, where he is coaching Barnes’ twin sons, Carter and Isaiah. In fact, he said that the decision to switch to coaching school kids instead of professional basketball was centered on his kids. Fisher even recently denied any links to joining Redick’s Lakers coaching staff, implying that he is happy with his current position.

Earlier this year, Govan bizarrely made headlines after lashing out at an opposition coach during a basketball game.

“That Ozempic got your brain fogged up,” the Basketball Wives star yelled toward Notre Dame’s head coach, Matt Sargeant, from the stands.

It was directed at Sargeant’s body transformation, which reportedly involved losing 50 pounds. Govan was ejected from the game and escorted off the property.

However, that wasn’t the only time Govan, Fisher, or Barnes were in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Looking back at the unexpected altercation between former Lakers teammates

Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan separated in January 2015, while Derek Fisher and Candace divorced in March 2015. However, Govan was reportedly hiding her relationship from Barnes. The former Lakers star learned the truth when his kids told him that Fisher had been meeting Govan. Barnes was then furious and even told former All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas that he would probably need to get bailed out.

Reportedly, Barnes drove all the way from Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles to Manhattan Beach to “beat the sh-t” out of Fisher.

“Barnes went crazy. He got in his car and went to the house and went after Fisher,” one source told the Post.

The police responded to the scene, but no charges were filed. However, Barnes, who played for the Memphis Grizzlies, received a two-game suspension. Less than a month later, he was fined $35,000 by the NBA for continuing to make comments about Fisher. Since then, though, they’ve avoided any further drama.

“We had a real, open, candid conversation when we squashed the BS. Since then, he’s been a really great stepfather,” Barnes admitted about Fisher.

“We are respectful because I’m in his kids’ lives and he’s in my kids’ lives, essentially,” Fisher replied in a different interview. “It does my children no good to come on my TV and go back and forth about him or what he said about me.”

The kids were even present when Fisher and Govan tied the knot in 2021 at Cielo Farms in Malibu. For now, though they live separately, they are not headed for divorce.
