It was two contrasting days for Charles Barkley, whose impact on the ACC Golf Championship did not last more than 24 hours. The former NBA superstar delivered a promising performance in the first two days of the tournament. However, on day 4, all his efforts went in vain. We are not just speaking about golf here. His hilarious attempt to hit former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens’s throw also failed miserably, leading to the Yankees legend cracking jokes about him on live television. Anyhow, the elephant in the room was Barkley’s day 4 failure. What went wrong for the Chuckster? Let’s take a look.

Clemens finished with a -2 on day 1 of the ACC. But he redeemed himself in the next two days with a +5 and a +7. He was all smiles on day 4 and decided to have fun with Barkley. Clemens got his baseball gloves on and threw three pitches to Barkley. The Philadelphia 76ers icon stood there still with a golf stick in his hand. He did not even attempt to swing the stick, as Clemens’s throw was too quick.

Clemens hilariously shared, “I told Chuck it’s going to sound like bacon in a frying pan and Chuck said, ‘I like Bacon.'” Well, Barkley did look like bacon out there. Not just in baseball, but also in golf. After missing all three pitches from Clemens, he swung the golf ball, which eventually fell into the sand. The disappointment was evident on Barkley’s face.

Clemens holds the lead over Barkley in the ACC. He is tied for the 47th place, while Barkley is struggling at the 58th place. However, this was not the case on day 2.

Charles Barkley’s downfall in the second half of the ACC

Barkley showed a drastic improvement in the ACC this year. He improved his swing by hiring Stan Utley, who is a 62-year-old golf instructor. Barkley finished with a +3 on day 1 and a 0 on day 2. This was the first time he finished with a positive number on ACC. Anyhow, the scores switched in just 24 hours.

Barkley shared about day 2, “I had a great time. It’s the best I’ve ever probably played anywhere, probably… I’m really looking forward to the next couple days.” After round 3 yesterday, Barkley went to -4. He finished with a -7 on day 3 which took a hit on his positive number.

All the birdies he hit in the first two days failed to make an impact till the last round. Moreover, looking at the bad swings he attempted today, the scores are likely to be negative for day 4 as well. Anyhow, there was at least some improvement from the NBA Hall of Famer this year, which is to be appreciated.
