Lamar Odom has a slight problem with the Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, even though he hasn’t watched it because of the harrowing memories it depicts. Still, he’s pushing back on how the film portrays his coma and recovery, particularly when it comes to the role of his ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian.

While promoting the documentary, Odom appeared on Today, where Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones pressed him on Kardashian’s role in his recovery. To most observers’ surprise, Odom framed his survival as nothing short of a divine intervention that had very little to do with his ex.
“In some ways [she saved my life],” Odom told the hosts and quickly pushed back on the statement, “God saved my life. My Lord saved my life, honestly.” He’d even double down and say, “She took care of me, but God took care of me the most. What I came back from was like a medical miracle.”
It paints a contrasting picture to footage of Khloe holding up photographs in the hospital room to remind Odom of his kids.
Lamar Odom speaks on his ex-wife Khloe Kardashian being there for him while he suffered 12 strokes, 6 heart-attacks, & a 3 day coma, but says he REFUSES to believe that his Dad told Khloe to “pull the plug” on him to inherit his money while he was on life-support 😮👀 “She took Show more
Now 46, Odom’s survival still defies medical logic. In 2015, the former Los Angeles Lakers forward overdosed at a Nevada Bro**el amid his divorce from Kardashian. He suffered 12 strokes, 6 heart attacks, and fell into a three-day coma. Doctors reportedly gave him just a 10% chance of surviving surgery. He later credited moments like Kobe Bryant visiting him as part of the emotional push that helped him recover, but he still had to relearn how to walk and talk from scratch.
Odom himself views that stretch through a deeply personal lens. Though he finds it difficult to watch footage from that period, he opened up about the moment he regained consciousness: “When I woke up, I couldn’t walk and talk. I just buckled down and said my prayers and stayed close to God.”
It adds to the complicated relationship he already has with Khloe Kardashian. Although amicable, their brief reunion on The Kardashians last year hinted at a lack of closure between them.
While he acknowledges Kardashian’s support during that time, Odom’s attempt to reclaim his version of events also led him to question one of the most shocking claims made in the documentary.
Lamar Odom raises doubts about Khloe Kardashian’s claims
In Untold, Kardashian made a claim that stunned viewers. She recalled that when she arrived at the Las Vegas hospital, Odom’s father, Joe Odom, was already there and allegedly urged doctors to remove him from life support.
“I assume [Joe] thought he’s now the beneficiary to Lamar,” she said in a confessional. “And Joe just said, ‘Don’t put him on life support. Turn those machines off.’” She added that he asked for a pair of sneakers and $100 before he left, claiming he never returned to see his son.
Odom strongly disputes that version of events. “If you know Joe Odom, I don’t think that’s something that would ever come out of his mouth,” he said. “He was my biggest fan. I don’t know where that got mistranslated,” adding that he continues to honor both his parents, even wearing a necklace with their photos.
The interview has left viewers with mixed reactions. Untold, of course, represents Odom’s attempt to reclaim his narrative, but his pushback shows that even personal documentaries can blur lines between perspective and reality.
His stance also echoes cases like Michael Oher, who publicly challenged how The Blind Side portrayed his life, highlighting a growing trend of athletes taking back control of their own stories. In Odom’s case, that story will always remain intertwined with Kardashian — no matter how differently each side remembers it.
