Before the 2021-22 season commenced, only a handful of individuals would’ve predicted the version of the Grizzlies that we have seen. And a key factor for their success has been 22-year-old Ja Morant. Averaging over 26 points, he has been one of the finds of the season.

Even among the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, and more, the youngster has ensured that people stand up and take note of him. But can he go a step further and claim the MVP prize?

Ja Morant compared to NFL quarter-back Joe Burrow in MVP talks

Although it is difficult to compare the NBA and NFL, several players are often likened to their compatriots. In one such instance, ESPN’s Max Kellerman made a startling comparison of Morant, to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

The 25-year-old is a revelation in the premier football league, and was awarded the Comeback Player of the Year in 2021. And while ranking Memphis’ point guard as 5th in his MVP list, Kellerman drew a peculiar comparison.

He said, “His team is really good, underrated. They have a really good record against good teams this season. He is playing just about as well as anyone in the league already, and he reminds me of Joe Burrow.”

The 48-year-old continued with the analogy and then said, “His time is right now. He could win Finals MVP this season and his team might be good enough to do it.”

Will the NBA’s Joe Burrow prove his might on the big stage? One thing is certain; regardless of the outcome, Ja Morant has the belief and mindset of the elite players. Let’s wait and see how far that takes him!
