Amidst all this, Government officials have been trying their best to find a solution. A prisoner swap looked favorable, which would bring Griner and Paul Whelan, a former Marine, back to the United States. In return, Russia would receive a notorious arms dealer.

However, it seems the prisoner swap offer is nowhere close to fruition. It has been over 200 days since Griner’s arrest and major updates are a rarity.

Moreover, according to reports, there has been no progress in the talks to try and bring Brittney Griner back home. An official said, “We want Russia to take this offer that we have put on the table—a substantial offer as you’ve heard us say many times—seriously. Or they can make a serious counteroffer, but they need to make a serious counteroffer.

A major update regarding Brittney Griner was announced recently. A Russian court will be entertaining appeals from Griner’s camp on the 25th of October that will decide her future.

Currently, the two-time Olympic champion is serving her nine-year sentence in Russia. Before her sentencing, Griner had pleaded guilty to all her crimes. However, she asserted that she had no intention of breaking the law.
