Patenting the skyhook, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar rose as one of the most dominant big men ever. However, with a global platform, the Lakers legend stood for various social causes. Following the steps of Bill Russell, a coveted social advocate, he stood at the iconic Cleveland summit at the age of just 18.

Now, he uses his substack to share his views on stance on the various issues encompassing the United States of America. Viewing the ongoing debate about children’s education, the NBA all-time points leader had some harsh words for the parents.

Lakers legend weighs in on the education of children

Education forms the grounds for success. And schools are widely seen as the most ideal spot to establish the basics. However, according to an education survey, most American parents believe they should control their child’s education. This includes having the authority to opt-out of a few lessons. Notably, the ones which don’t pertain to controversial issues such as racial injustice and more.

However, the Los Angeles Lakers great had a strict opinion when it came to love. He said: “Disagreeing with opinions parents have doesn’t mean the children will stop loving them, unless the parent makes agreeing a condition of being loved. In that case, that parent doesn’t deserve the child’s love. I like nothing better than having a lively, but respectful, conversation with my children. If they prove me wrong about one of my opinions, then I can be proud I did my job as a parent.

Taking in the Hall of Famer’s viewpoints, subjecting love is probably the worst move on the parents’ end. Various experiences and teaching enable a child to grow an opinion of their own. However, holding it against them as conditions for parental love sure seems wrong. The survey brought out several disadvantages of encouraging this majority belief. Hence, only time will dictate the flow of education in the USA.
