The year 2018 wasn’t the best year for Shaquille O’Neal, as his son Shareef underwent heart surgery to fix some irregularities he was facing not only physically, but while playing the game as well.
On Instagram, O’Neal’s son shared information about his surgery with his followers in the form of a picture captioned as follows:

“I made it thank you for all the love and support,” the pictures show him connected to five additional monitors as he explained: “I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers, that’s what helped me through this surgery.” Shareef added, “I’m on the road to recovery, and I’ll be back soon … better than ever.”

During his basketball career at UCLA, the doctors discovered an irregularity in his heart. Shareef’s mother, Shaunie, talked about Shareef’s condition during this hard time, saying that she doesn’t care how old her kids get–she always protects them. Despite the fact that she has no control over this, she trusts in God to save her child from all these difficult circumstances.

After the surgery, Shareef posted an Instagram photo showing him walking. While sharing it on the story highlights, he captioned it as “3 years ago” and in the next story he wrote, “went into surgery weighing 217. Came out 180”. Then, he posted another message about entering quarantine after getting back.

During his play with the UCLA team, Shaquille O’Neal told the staff that Shareef was experiencing a strange sensation in his chest. Reports stated that Shareef had an anomalous coronary artery on his right side. Due to this situation, he had to stop playing basketball for almost a year.
Shareef became back on track after a few months as you can see him talking about his life, surgery, and struggles on Instagram.
