Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy were together for 17 years. Despite the divorce, the two still share a deep understanding of each other, and they often focus on and talk about their children. Recently, a picture of Jordan celebrating one of the Chicago Bulls’ championships with Juanita was shared on Twitter. She was wearing a Bull’s jacket and smoking a cigar with him.

At that time, Jordan was reaching his peak as an NBA player and was a pivotal member of the Chicago team.

Why was Michael Jordan and his first marriage not shown in “The Last Dance”?

In “The Last Dance”, there were a lot of scenes from his career when he was at his peak. This documentary covers the last season Jordan spent with the Bulls, which includes never-before-seen footage of Jordan’s life at that point in time. However, it was interesting that they didn’t show anything regarding his relationship with his ex-wife. Producer Mike Tollin mentioned that:

“I think we touched on all categories. From the start, we asked ourselves, ‘Is this a workplace drama, or is it a domestic one?’ We both believed it was a workplace story, and [director] Jason [Hehir] and I shared a general disinterest of the wives and children of the lead characters.”

However, there are some rare pictures of their good times where they enjoyed the victory together.

Juanita and Jordan met for the first time in 1984.  According to The Washington Post, Vanoy was a loan officer prior to her modeling career. In a 1992 TV interview, Juanita talked about how they met through a friend and how they began dating. Their first child was born during these initial years of dating, and they had many disagreements after that, leading to legal intervention, as well.

Michael Jordan was in the spotlight due to his superior performance with the Bulls. However, there was attention on him when it came to his marriage as well.

In his statement to The Washington Post, he explained his position: “I’m happy. It was a big move getting married.” He also said, “It helped me mature.”
