Michael Jordan is undeniably the greatest NBA player of all time, but his track record as an owner of Charlotte Hornets hasn’t been the greatest. Before the last season, they only appeared in the playoffs back in 2016. In fact, they weren’t even considered competition, but that changed after the 2020 NBA Draft. The youngest member of the Ball family, LaMelo Ball, was the 3rd overall pick and eventually became a fan favorite. But it looks like Melo doesn’t idolize Jordan as much as one would have thought.

LaMelo Ball doesn’t look up to Michael Jordan?

Even before his entry into the league, LaMelo Ball had made quite a name for himself. Unlike most players, he did not take the usual route to become an NBA player and was even met with criticism. He usually made headlines because of his father, LaVar Ball. LaVar is a successful businessman and infamous for his bold statements and predictions.

Say what you will, he has still done a great job of raising his sons. Even though LaMelo is the youngest, he is considered to have the most potential. In fact, what’s better than being under the tutelage of the GOAT during your initial years? Melo has it the best.

However, like LaVar, Melo has also picked up on being brutally honest with his words. In the most recent interview, Melo admitted that Michael Jordan has guided him in many ways but did not specify anything.

He even went as far as saying that there is no NBA icon he looks up to. He said, “Nah, I have never been in awe of anyone in my life, to be honest. Probably just the way my pops raised me and had me [mentally].”

Can he use his cockiness to take the Charlotte Hornets higher?

The Charlotte Hornets were the underdogs of the 2020-21 NBA season, which took everyone by surprise. They were quite active in the offseason and made good additions to their squad. But after winning Rookie of the Year, Melo will certainly have much more responsibility on his shoulders.

They even won their first preseason game and will look to bring that energy in the regular season too. However, with the competition getting even tougher, Melo will have to do even better than last season. His sophomore year will play a crucial role in making an even bigger name for himself. Can he do it?
