LeBron James is making history with his performances with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite being 37, the King hasn’t slowed down one bit as he carries all the load. He hasn’t let age be a factor in reducing his productivity. And with his current rhythm he could well hold the title for most points in NBA history. Recently, the current leader, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, said he’ll be happy to congratulate James if he breaks his record.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar will congratulate LeBron James if he breaks the scoring record

A former Laker, Kareem has shown his support for LA every step of the way. Moreover, when it comes to his record, the 6 time champion has been open to it being broken one day. Currently, the only player close to doing that is LeBron James. Hence, Kareem assured his teammate Magic Johnson that he will be there to congratulate LeBron when he breaks his record.

He said: “If he can keep up his consistency I’ll gladly be there to congratulate him if and when he breaks the scoring record.”

Kareem scored a whopping 38,387 points through a 20 year span in the NBA. The big man averaged 24 points for his career and kept the consistency for the most part. At the moment, LeBron sits 723 points away from Karl Malone who is second on the list. With his run this season, inevitably, he will take that spot. However, can he pass Kareem?

The one parameter it will come down to will be consistency and Kareem rightly pointed out. LeBron will need to keep up a stable form if he is to get that record. With this season almost at its halfway point, James is going well averaging almost 29 points per game. Hence, if the King can keep this up even in the next season, there is a high chance LeBron will further his legacy by becoming the top scorer.
