Jayson Tatum talks about his Kobe Bryant Tattoo

Jayson had the chance to work out with his idol, Kobe, when he was only 20 years old. Tatum has spent his entire life idolizing Kobe Bryant, and getting a chance to work out with him was a surreal experience. The bond between the two lasted until Kobe’s tragic death in 2020.

Speaking on Knuckleheads Podcast recently, Jayson talked about a very special tattoo on his body.

I love tattoos and it’s a way to like express yourself… Whatever story you trying to tell, somebody as important and influential to me as anybody, rest in peace, Kobe. I always knew after what happened that I would eventually get one, I just wanted to take some time. So I got 24 in a Black Mamba with the scales detailed going down the inside of my left knee,” Tatum said when asked about why he got a Kobe tattoo.

Tatum and Kobe Bryant:

Tatum was living the life every kid who watched Kobe Bryant dreamt of. He worked out with his idol and was also the subject of Kobe’s Detail in ESPN+ that year. Kobe Bryant had a lot to say about the young Jayson Tatum in that video, and he took Kobe’s words very seriously.

Heartbroken. My Hero. My Idol, The reason I started to play this game, the reason I fell in love with this game,” a heartbroken Tatum wrote on his Instagram after Bryant’s unfortunate demise.

It is amazing how one workout session can change someone’s life. That’s how great the Mamba Kobe Bryant was. Kobe kept on asking Tatum one question which helped him achieve an elite mentality. The question asked by Kobe was, “How much does it mean to you?”.

Tatum followed Kobe’s advice religiously and has now become one of the top young talents in the league, and many regard him to be the next big thing. Tatum has already found his groove this season with the Boston Celtics as he hunts for his first NBA Championship.
