The couple was arrested for domestic violence and were put in the same cell. However, this gave them the time to reflect on the things that had happened. Johnson did not plead guilty but Griner did. However, both were given a 7-game suspension by the WNBA.

Brittney Griner appealed for an annulment

Despite the altercation and the arrest, the lovers decided to get married. The couple tied the knot one month after their domestic violence arrest. A month later, Glory Johnson announced that she is pregnant with twins by IVF. But Griner shocked everyone the next day by filing for an annulment. This came as a huge blow for Johnson who received a call from her spouse’s manager about the annulment. Griner appealed that she was pressured into marrying Johnson and also said that she was not involved in the IVF.

Griner said, “…I can confirm that today I filed for an annulment. In the week prior to the wedding, I attempted to postpone the wedding several times until I completed counseling, but I still went through with it. I now realize that was a mistake.”

A judge declined her annulment appeal. So they were left with the option of divorce. Then in 2016, Griner and Johnson were finally divorced. Johnson was bedridden during a major part of her pregnancy and gave birth to twin girls 16 weeks premature.
