The long saga of Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner has the world divided. While some feel she deserves the treatment, others feel she needs to be rescued.

For the ones looking for context, Griner was arrested earlier this year by Russian officials. The officials found traces of illegal narcotics in her luggage, which led to her arrest. The former Olympic champion had been playing the offseason in Russia for quite some time now.

This started a long legal procedure that has been going on for some time now. Needless to say, countless celebrities have given their thoughts regarding the situation.

Recently, former POTUS Donald Trump publicly bashed Griner for her actions and also the Government for suggesting a prisoner exchange in order to bring her back to the US.

Iuliia Mendel, a close aide of Ukraine’s President, also commented on Griner’s situation. Taking to Twitter, Mendel gave her thoughts regarding the WNBA star’s plight.

Only time can tell what will happen to Brittney Griner. However, the governments of both countries are in contact in order to sort out the situation as soon as possible.

Griner’s arrest a few months ago sent headlines all around the world. NBA stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and others have shown their support for the athlete. Recently, Iuliia Mendel, a close aide of President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, let her thoughts known on Twitter.

She wrote, “Cannot imagine what this American woman of colour goes through in the jail of the one of the most chauvinist and aggressive countries that has developed a culture of hatred towards the USA. Wishing strength to her and her family.“

Griner has been in jail for well over 100 days now. On July 7, she pleaded guilty to all the charges pressed against her, which could lead to a prison sentence going up to 10 years.
