Controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner has a history of always being in the news for one reason or another. However, this does not change the fact that she was one of the best players in the WNBA.

Griner burst onto the scene playing for the Baylor Bears. She won a lot of accolades in the NCAA tournament and established herself as one of the hottest prospects in the country. 

Her relationship with the college was not good. Although she was pretty open regarding her sexuality, the institution had a policy against homosexuals that suppressed Griner.

Moreover, this led to problems between Griner and her coach, Kim Mulkey. The Phoenix Mercury star described her relationship with her father, Raymond Griner, and her coach as complicated in her book.

She wrote, “I love and respect them both, more than they probably know. But if I had to pick just one word to describe my relationship with each of them? Complicated. All caps COMPLICATED.“

Griner’s father Raymond was a police veteran who had served in Vietnam. Although he is quite supportive of his daughter and her choices currently, the same could not be said in the past. On the other hand, former Baylor Bears coach Kim Mulkey has always had a troubled relationship with her best player.

Kim Mulkey has always had a troubled relationship with Brittney Griner. After the Baylor Bears lost unexpectedly to Louisville in the NCAA tournament, Griner’s father revealed Mulkey never talked to BG again.

Griner has been in a Russian prison ever since the start of this year. Following her arrest, numerous athletes and other celebrities have given their opinion on the Phoenix Mercury star.

However, Mulkey never gave any opinion about her former player. When a journalist pointed out that nobody had heard anything from Mulkey about Griner, she said, “and you won’t.“

Her blunt response was not taken well by numerous players. Despite Griner being one of the best players for the Baylor Bears and leading them to two NCAA titles, Mulkey refused to show some support for her.
