NBA legend Michael Jordan is iconic in all senses. Apart from his basketball skills which mesmerized millions around the world, his off-court activities have arguably made him even greater. 

Moreover, he is widely regarded as one of the most marketable athletes ever. After all, he was the first athlete to become a billionaire. It seems Jordan’s marketability is just as good as it was back in the day, if not better. 

According to reports, a jersey worn by the six-time NBA champion during the 1998 NBA Finals recently sold for a record price. Interestingly enough, this was the same jersey shown in ‘The Last Dance‘ docuseries as well.

Auction house Sotheby’s confirmed the $10.1 million sale of the iconic #23 jersey worn by MJ himself. Moreover, they reported that the jersey attracted “palpable excitement” from 20 bidders. The previous record was held by soccer legend Diego Maradona, as his 1986 FIFA World Cup Finals jersey sold for around $9.28 million. 

Jordan won his sixth and final NBA title with the Chicago Bulls in 1998. They faced the Utah Jazz in the Finals as Jordan ended his phenomenal stint with the Bulls on a high note.

There are a handful of players who have been as good as Michael Jordan in the NBA Finals. He has a 6-0 record in the Finals and his numbers during the same are as legendary as the player himself.

MJ had confirmed that he will not be playing under any other coach barring Phil Jackson and this suggested that the 1998 season would be his last. In iconic Jordan style, he ended his career with the Bulls on a high note. 

The team had a fantastic playoffs run and as faced the Utah Jazz in the Finals. Michael Jordan put in a performance to remember as the Chicago Bulls beat the Jazz 4-2 to win the championship. 

Jordan averaged 33.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists against the Jazz. On the other hand, Karl Malone of the Jazz averaged 25.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.
