Jordan took home his second MVP award in the 1990-91 season. He put up monstrous numbers across the board as he averaged 31.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. He led his team to a then franchise-record 61 wins. Surrounded by the ideal sidekicks, Jordan spearheaded the Chicago Bulls and kick-started a decade of pure dominance.

Upon being presented his MVP trophy by then-commissioner David Stern, Jordan’s emotions got the best of him as he became teary-eyed. Later, during a conversation with Pat Riley during the 1991 playoffs, the Bulls icon disclosed the heartening reason that reduced him to tears as he accepted the coveted trophy.

Jordan told Pat Riley that he got emotional when collecting the MVP award since he was surrounded by his teammates.

?This particular time, I was being given that MVP by my teammates,? said MJ. ?By people that I play with and I?m with eight months out of the year instead of the media. Our players actually gave me that because of the way they play,” he added.

He went on to say that it was a special occasion for him since he was surrounded by his teammates. He went on to describe the setting as a family situation.

“That was very touching for me, and when they said they were gonna go out there and help me receive this, I did all I could just to hold back the tears because it really showed to me what they really felt for me to win that award. It was a family situation,? he concluded.

Remarkably, Jordan retained his MVP form in the playoffs and won his first NBA title. He was overwhelmed with emotions after winning his first NBA championship. He broke down and shed tears in the locker room as he held the NBA championship in his arms.
