Brittney Griner’s prison situation is not unknown to anyone. The issue, which started off with the detainment of the WNBA player in Russia, has now become a global issue. Arguably, one of the greatest women’s basketball players was detained in Russia on Feb 17th, 2022.

They gave the reason for the detention as ‘smuggling of drugs in the country.’ Brittney had gone there to play during the off-season. With the issue gaining global attention, many American, as well as foreign celebrities, have raised their voices against the issue. One of them is Nadya Tolokonnikova. The Russian Singer has always raised her voice against political issues and didn’t hold back this time as well.

Support for Brittney Griner from Russia?

Nadya Tolokonnikova is one of the founding members of the feminist group- ‘Pussy Riot’. The activist regularly takes part in political demonstrations and displays. She has even served a year in prison for protesting against Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian singer was in the Bay Area recently for the ‘Outside lands‘ music festival. Her set started with her asking the crowd, “Are you ready to riot?” This was to get the song rolling and also take her stance to influence people in the concert. While performing, she lifted her shirt and removed it by the song’s end.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, and hoots, she wore it after flipping it with a special message written on it. The message was,?“FREE BRITTNEY GRINER.”?

This action to show support for the US basketball player surely means a lot to fans around the globe. Gaining support and revolting against the detainment of the basketball star who, according to some, was carrying prescribed cannabis hash oil.

Tolokonnikova’s social stance at the end

Tolokonnikova continued to bring attention to various issues prevalent in society by showing a video of the Pussy Riots. She even ended her set with the Ukrainian national anthem. Nonetheless, her gaining attention to the Brittney situation and other political issues even after being detained once is a matter of courage.
