You might know Golden State Warriors forward Kevon Looney as a defensive hound and great rebounder. However, there are plenty of mixtapes on YouTube from Looney’s school days that will tell you otherwise. He was one of the top recruits from the class of 2014 and was such a good ball handler that Looney drew comparisons with none other than Kevin Durant. That’s because he was a 6-foot-9 ball-handler who could drill threes and make pinpoint passes. He was a totally different ball player back then.

Fast forward to 2025, Looney finds himself doing the dirty work, being around some of the greatest players such as Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green. But he’s also been remarkable in doing that, winning three championships and making a fortune playing the sport he loves. In fact, he even got to share the court with the Slim Reaper, to whom he was compared when he was younger. So, you could say things have worked out pretty well for Kevon Looney. But it makes you wonder who the people are that supported him through this tiresome journey. Who are Kevon Looney’s parents?

Who is Kevon Looney’s mother, Victoria Looney?

If someone is to be credited for Kevon Looney’s success, it’s his mother, Victoria Looney. The Warriors’ forward’s mom has been his backbone throughout his life. From his high school days in Milwaukee to UCLA and finally in the NBA. “My mom calls me to preach to me every day,” Looney told The Athletic. “If I don’t want to hear it or am tired of hearing it, she’s still going to tell me. You know, as a kid, you don’t want your mom to be right. So sometimes, I’d be like, ‘She was dead on, but I ain’t never going to tell her.’ If I tell her she’s right this time, she’s going to be, like, you should listen every time.”

While Looney was reluctant, he has required every ounce of that confidence; his mother’s pep talks are the reason he is the player we all know. Moreover, it’s her mother’s reliance that helped bring Kevon into this world. Victoria met Kevon’s father while working in a retail clothing store he owned. It was love at first sight. “When I walked in, I took his breath away,” Victoria said. “I didn’t even have to fill out an application. He hired me, fired me, and married me.” Soon, Victoria and Kevin married each other and had their first child together, Kevin Jr. But with her daughter, Summer, the pregnancy was rough. In fact, Victoria’s blood pressure was so high that she was close to having a stroke.

So, when she got pregnant for the third time at the age of 29, doctors advised her not to have the baby. Victoria took a week’s time to think about it and prayed to her god. “God told me I would be all right,” she said. “And the doctor told me, ‘I pray that your God is right.’ Kevon was the baby the doctor told me not to have.” So, she knew from the beginning that Kevon was special. Indeed, he was. Because the rest is history. But despite being a miracle baby, Kevon’s mother is always honest with him. When he has a good game, he receives praise, and when it’s a poor game, his mom lets him know. Kevon and his mother share a great bond and have always had each other’s backs. While Victoria is a significant reason for her son’s success, she isn’t the only one.

What is the background and nationality of Kevon Looney’s parents?

Kevon Looney’s journey started in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was here he took his first steps with the help of his mother and father, both of whom are Wisconsin natives as well. The Looney household is all proud Americans and also proud of their African-American background. Kevin and Victoria are great parents and have raised three beautiful children. They are always up to date with their son’s life and help him through each and every game. “I call my dad first, then my mom will call me 30 seconds later and we’ll have the same conversation,” Kevon told PEOPLE. They always tell him what they saw on the court and help him identify his mistakes and praise him for his good performances.

While Kevon is under the spotlight all the time being an NBA player, his parents remain away from the stardom. So much so that they don’t even have social media accounts. That’s great news, given such a scary place the internet can be. In fact, his parents have been victims of social media hate when he unintentionally injured then-Lakers player, Anthony Davis. This led to a social media account threatening to release his family’s address. However, the post was later removed as Looney’s supporters came forward to support him amid all the hate, which was uncalled for. Fortunately, the situation was dealt with, and Kevon continues his hunt for his fourth championship with the Warriors. Will he be able to get it? A few weeks to go!
