The shorthanded Golden State Warriors are fighting for survival. Facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in a nationally televised matchup, Golden State entered the night desperate to build momentum and solidify its position in the Play-In race. But that fight for stability took another hit in the second quarter, when veteran reserve Seth Curry was forced to leave the game with an injury, raising fresh concerns about the team’s already fragile depth.

Why Did Seth Curry Leave the Game? What Injury Did He Suffer?

In the second quarter, as the Warriors fought to secure a pass, Curry, in an effort to maintain control of a loose ball, collided with Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo, ending up on the floor. He got back up, but was clearly limping and grabbing his groin area.

Soon afterward, with a dead ball around 8:12 in the quarter, Curry checked out of the game, immediately heading to the locker room while holding his groin.

After halftime, the team announced that Curry is dealing with left adductor soreness, and that he’s been ruled out for the rest of the night. This is an unfortunate setback for Curry, who had just returned to the team from injury.

How Did Seth Curry Perform Before Leaving?

Curry couldn’t build a rhythm before exiting. In about seven minutes on the floor, Curry went scoreless, missing both of his shots, logging just an offensive rebound and an assist. Oddly, neither of his attempts were three-pointers, the shot that he has been known for his whole career.

This has been an odd year for Curry, who hasn’t been able to take to the court for more than a couple of games at a time. Coming into tonight, the Warriors guard had logged just three games played, averaging nine points per game with two assists and 1.7 rebounds.

His return game against the Utah Jazz was solid, when he scored 13 points in 12 minutes, but that impact has been completely nullified by his inability to stay on the court.

How Did the Golden State Warriors Adjust Without Curry?

Without Curry on the floor, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has relied on sharpshooters Pat Spencer and LJ Cryer, and they’ve done well so far. The two have combined for 11 points on solid efficiency, as well as two rebounds and three assists.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been enough to keep the Wolves at bay, especially without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Seth Curry has especially been a big part of the Warriors’ injury woes. He missed 39 games across nearly three months due to an irritation in his left sciatic nerve, something Curry was completely debilitated by.

“I don’t know exactly when [the injury] happened,” he told reporters following the Jazz game. “I couldn’t move at all. It was like a month’s time where I really couldn’t move; I was just laying at home… And then just once the pain went away, I was able to rehab and try to get all my movement back, but it’s been tough.”

For now, the hope is that he and his brother can recover from their injuries quickly, especially as the Warriors try to keep postseason hopes alive late this season.
