Jalen Brunson’s night in Sacramento ended almost as soon as it began, and the New York Knicks’ chances of winning may have gone down with him.

Bad luck struck five minutes in. Brunson had the ball with Maxime Raynaud guarding him. There was no physical contact between the players. It looked like the Knicks star was trying to make a pass, but ended up rolling his right ankle.

Raynaud went for the loose ball. But despite being on the floor, Brunson managed to shove the ball out of his reach. He stayed a little longer but left for the locker room at the next dead ball. He only scored four points. The Knicks were trailing 16-8 with less than eight minutes left in the quarter at the time.

Before the second quarter ended, they announced his status was questionable, with still no word on the severity. Miles McBride subbed in. But the Knicks lagged behind.

Déjà vu for Jalen Brunson and the Knicks…

This single moment during the Knicks-Kings game is giving fans anxiety. They couldn’t care less about the outcome as much as Jalen Brunson’s status right now.

The point guard’s Achilles heel has always been the right ankle. He sprained the same ankle last season and was sidelined for nearly a month. At the start of this season, he hurt it again and missed a couple of games.

Historically, when the Knicks’ floor general returns, he quickly gets back to his dominant form. Brunson made the Knicks the second seed in the Eastern Conference heading into tonight’s matchup. The sharpshooter has delivered in clutch moments and led his team to near-impossible wins.

But tonight they will have to do that without him. The Knicks officially ruled out Brunson for the rest of the game. Tyler Kolek started the second half in his place.

Fans now wait for Brunson’s updated injury report.

Update: The Knicks had no updates on Brunson’s injury after losing the game. The player did not speak to the media. Brunson was seen heading to the parking garage without a walking boot, but he had a noticeable limp.
