Trevelin Queen’s journey to the NBA has been anything but easy. The Orlando Magic guard back in 2016 spent a night in East Oakland tossing and turning in his seat, trying to get himself to sleep in a packed 1982 Delta 1982 Royale. The owner of the car and Queen’s college teammate was already asleep in the driver’s seat whereas his two other friends were trying to get some rest in the two-row car.

Although Queen and his teammates knew the neighborhood was quiet, for now, that could change at a moment’s notice. However, they didn’t have much of a choice after being kicked out of the retirement home, where they had been staying earlier. The cause of which a noise complaint, which was impossible to control given the circumstances. There were 10 players living in the two-bedroom apartment, sleeping on air mattresses just to make things work somehow!

Although Queen’s life has been full of setbacks, that didn’t stop the Orlando Magic Guard from making it onto the biggest stage of them all. The Magic star not only lived in a retirement home and slept in a car to make his hooping dreams come true but he also traveled around the country in pursuit of a Division I opportunity. That he did land eventually at New Mexico State, from where he would make it to the NBA but not without a few more setbacks.

Where is Trevelin Queen from? Is the Orlando Magic star American?

Born in Glen Burnie, Maryland, United States, Trevelin Queen knew right off the bat that professional sports was where wanted to end up. This translated during his early days as he played multiple sports such as football, baseball, and basketball for a while baseball seemed to be the one but that changed when Queen grew from 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-1 over the summer.

It was then he moved to Florida in an attempt to play at his sister’s school, which was much more basketball-oriented. Furthermore, his parents were incredibly supportive towards their son and helped in a lot in his rough journey. Queen grew up alongside his seven siblings including his two older brothers Brian and Frank, a younger brother Jayden, an older sister named Jasmine, and three younger sisters, Jada, Tye, and Taylor.

Which university did Trevelin Queen attend?

Moving to Florida didn’t quite work out for Trevelin whose paperwork came in late and that caused him to lose one year of eligibility. After moving back to live with his mother he returned to North County High School in search of a role in the varsity team but clashed with the coach and left during the season. With less than a year of varsity experience to show, Queen did not turn any heads from colleges.

Unrecruited Trevelin suited up for an AAU team led by one of his former coaches in a last-ditch effort. That’s when James Watkins saw Queen and asked him to join Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland. But paperwork once again held Queen back and following that he joined Marin after getting in touch with Marshall Collins who was their head coach at the time.

As a freshman, he averaged a team-high 21.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and even had 2.3 steals per game. Furthermore, Queen moved to New Mexico where he joined New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) where in his sophomore season, he was selected to the All-Western Junior College Atheltic Conference team and was ranked fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

After this Division I schools had no choice but to notice Trevelin Queen as he received offers from the likes of Oklahoma State, Western Kentucky, Colorado State, New Mexico State, and others. New Mexico was where Queen transferred next and averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, becoming one of the best players for the Aggies.
