In a deeply personal and worrying development, San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has turned to his 5.2 million social media followers and two NBA legends to help locate a dear friend. The Chicago Police Department officially opened a missing persons investigation into 23-year-old Elijah Joseph Hoard, a fellow basketball player.

Wembanyama also tagged two Chicago Bulls legends, including Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, as well as Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard, with a considerable network in the Windy City, hoping to generate leads.

Rose and Noah have indeed seen his message and soon reshared Wembanyama’s posts with their followers to spread it further. Hoard, who hoops in the lower French leagues, comes from a basketball-rich family legacy, with his elder brother Jaylen having a brief NBA stint with two teams.

Details about Victor Wembanyama’s missing friend, Elijah Hoard

Elijah Hoard spent 10 days in the United States, visiting his father, Antwon, in Chicago. He was last seen on Friday when he was dropped off at O’Hare International Airport.

“He never took the flight his bags weren’t registered, and he never checked in, so what we’re thinking is he could possibly be floating around the airport or something, but again, that’s the last we’ve seen of him,” Antwon told ABC 7.

Elijah was last seen wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants, with cream-colored shoes. He is 6-foot-3 and weighs 220 lbs.

US authorities say Hoard “may be in need of medical attention.” Antwon confirmed that his son has been suffering from an unspecified mental illness and was hesitant to go home.

“Everything seemed pretty normal the first eight days, but the last two days his whole mood had swung, and he was really adamant about not going back home, and he didn’t want to go home,” Antwon explained.

Hoard’s phone has remained unreachable since Friday night when he went missing. His father also said that the missing young man doesn’t have enough money on him to be on his own for more than a few days. The family is hoping that anyone around the airport may help find him.

Alongside Wembanyama, fellow French basketball stars Nicolas Batum and Guerschon Yabusele also took to social media to spread the word.
