The margin for error is shrinking fast for the Phoenix Suns. Just when the roster finally looked close to whole, another night turned into damage control. That reality hit hard Friday night in Atlanta. After a 110–103 loss to the Hawks, Suns head coach Jordan Ott confirmed that Phoenix may once again be forced to navigate without its primary scorers.

The concern is not theoretical. Both Devin Booker and Jalen Green exited the game injured, leaving Ott with more questions than answers as the team heads back to Arizona.

Green’s return lasted barely one full shift. Playing in just his second game back from a right hamstring strain, he came off the bench and logged only a few minutes before limping back to the locker room. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game as a precaution.

Afterward, Ott offered little clarity. “Just same with Jalen. Just felt a little tightness, just for precautionary reasons took him out. Didn’t come back…” Because this was the final stop on a six-game road trip, the Suns opted against pushing the issue. Green will be evaluated once the team returns to Phoenix.

Unfortunately for Phoenix, the night was not done. Moments after Green’s exit, Booker went down following a tangle with Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu. Booker rolled his right ankle on another player’s foot, stayed down in visible pain, and was ruled out shortly thereafter.

Ott did not sugarcoat it. “Obviously you saw what happened to Book. Right ankle, rolled it on someone else’s foot. Pretty unlucky. So we’ll just have to take a look when we get back to Phoenix.” Booker later left the locker room on crutches, avoiding pressure on the ankle.

The Phoenix Suns are on the verge of losing their scorers

The Suns dropped to 27–18 with the loss, finishing a six-game road trip at 3–3. More importantly, they lost control of a game late after Booker exited, underscoring just how central his presence is to Phoenix’s offense.

Ott’s first season has been defined by constant rotation juggling. He inherited an injury-ridden roster from his predecessor and has rarely had the luxury of a full lineup. Even Green’s return came cautiously after a 33-game absence, with minutes and conditioning tightly monitored.

That context makes Friday night especially cruel. Neither Booker nor Green appeared on the injury report before tipoff. Only Jordan Goodwin carried a designation, and he had been upgraded to available. For the first time in weeks, Ott appeared poised to work with a complete group.

Instead, the Suns walked off the floor potentially down both of their explosive scorers again. Phoenix’s situation is not isolated. Around the NBA this season, ankle and hamstring injuries have repeatedly sidelined star players, often without warning. The Suns’ double blow fits that broader pattern, one that has hit contenders as hard as anyone.

For Ott, the timing could not be worse. With the Western Conference standings tightening and no margin for unnecessary losses, Phoenix’s ability to stabilize depends heavily on the upcoming medical evaluations.

The Suns return home to face the Miami Heat on Sunday. Until Booker and Green are reassessed in Phoenix, their statuses remain uncertain. What is clear is the pressure point. Another extended absence for either scorer would force Ott back into emergency rotations just as the season demands consistency.

For a team already walking the injury tightrope, Friday night made it wobble again.
