Before tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, Edwards was greeted by a courtside visitor—his grandfather, Ben. It marked the first time Ben had watched him play in person since his high school days. Growing up, Ben wasn’t able to attend Anthony’s games, making this reunion even more special.

As reported by Chris Hine, the visit was kept a complete secret until Edwards spotted his grandfather during the pregame shoot-around. Overcome with emotion, the 23-year-old sprinted over to him, sharing a moment of pure joy that transcended the game.

In his return to his hometown of Atlanta, Anthony Edwards was reminded that even during tough times, family has a way of bringing light to dark days. Tonight, basketball took a backseat to a memory that will last a lifetime.

But, after going down in the last two games, the Wolves badly need this win to keep their head above the water and avoid going under .500. Importantly, Ant-Man received the right message ahead of the game from his Grandpa to make it possible. Chris Hine quoted Grandpa Ben’s statement when he said, “I told him to go out there and kick that a*s. It’d make me real happy.”

On the other hand, it’s also an emotional moment for the guard, as he said, “I didn’t believe he’s going to come out of the house,” while sitting next to Ben Edwards. So, we are not sure of how it will impact the rising superstar’s game tonight.

Anthony Edwards goes through an emotional patch amid turbulent times

Almost all of us know the emotional story that fueled the Atlanta native’s early success in his life. Anthony Edwards lost both his parents and grandparents to cancer in the same year, 2015. Speaking of their loss, he said, “I hold my family as tight as I can because we lost our mom and grandma.” So, it’s clearly evident that Edwards values his family more than anything. And, tonight’s Grandpa’s visit made it a heartwarming sight.

While we have an emotional player on one hand, he attracted so much trouble on the other hand. The star is fresh off a controversial $75,000 fine for publicly criticizing the NBA officials with profanity. Moreover, he had also two fines before this ($25,000, $35,000) for using profanity on the court and for flipping the middle finger during the game.

So, the star must keep a check on himself before the league decides to suspend him for repeated offenses. It has happened in the past as well, the league fined and suspended Draymond Green for his ugly physical altercations a few times and later decided to suspend him indefinitely until he learned the lesson. Hopefully, Edwards doesn’t go to that extent.
