The loudest moment in Friday’s Spurs-Timberwolves clash did not come from Anthony Edwards’ scoring burst. It came when Victor Wembanyama threw his hands up in disbelief after two physical sequences involving Edwards and Rudy Gobert went uncalled, igniting outrage from fans and even drawing attention from the broadcast crew.

With just over a minute left in the third quarter, Wembanyama erased Edwards at the rim despite Gobert appearing to pin one of his arms behind his back. Seconds later, as De’Aaron Fox pushed the ball in transition, Edwards grabbed Wembanyama’s jersey to slow him down before the Spurs star could join the break. No whistle followed either play, and the frustration on Wembanyama’s face immediately became one of the game’s defining images. The unanimous DPOY was clearly upset about the no-foul calls and went straight to the referee. Even the broadcaster pointed out the foul that the refs seemingly ignored.
“You see right here, Ant Edwards taking on Wemby, blocked the shot, and then watch this when Wemby tries to run, said WNBA legend and Hall of Famer Candace Parker. “Look at Ant with a little bat move. I’d hold him, too. Wemby was upset.”
Parker’s lighthearted reaction contrasted sharply with the frustration building on the floor. Physical possessions and disputed whistles kept tensions high throughout the game, creating an atmosphere that felt ready to spill over at any moment. Similar emotions surfaced during the Nuggets series, when Nikola Jokic and Jaden McDaniels exchanged shoves during a heated sequence. Friday’s matchup carried much of that same edge.

The frustration eventually boiled over into confrontation. McDaniels and Stephon Castle exchanged shoves and swipe attempts while Dylan Harper remained down on the court in pain after a separate sequence. As tempers escalated, teammates and officials stepped in to restrain McDaniels from advancing toward Castle.
The chaotic stretch only reinforced the growing belief among Spurs supporters that the officiating crew had lost control of the game after several missed calls against San Antonio.
Anthony Edwards and the Wolves get no support
Speaking about the foul on Wemby, a fan added, “Gobert grabs arm, Ant grabs jersey. Neither called”. To which another replied, “The officiating is dreadful.” Even in the second frame, Fox and Wemby had a give-and-go, and when the Spurs center went for the shot, Edwards’ blocking attempt caught his hand. Thankfully, the refs on the sideline called for two free throws. Still, concerns about Edwards’ physical defense continued to dominate the conversation online.
A fan wrote, “Edwards was clearly reaching and should have his 8th foul Smh”. While Ant had a breathtaking start to the game, he fizzled out in the fourth quarter. He took just 4 shots, was 1-3 from the field, and focused on passing to his teammates rather than taking the shot. His irritation also became more noticeable on the defensive end, where he picked up three personal fouls in the final quarter alone.
Another netizen added, “Ant-Man and Gobert should have been fouled out”. The complaints extended beyond Wembanyama. Castle repeatedly absorbed heavy contact while attacking the paint, with several drives ending in forceful body checks that fans believed deserved whistles. Once again, Edwards became the focal point of many of those reactions.
“Ant with the 2 arm bar across Castle arms and doesn’t get a foul.” Fortunately for the Spurs fans, Wemby’s double-double of 32 and 14 was enough to seal the win.
