Oakland natives have been going through a rough time with the changes made to Oakland Athletics. The iconic MLB team has gone through a name change, now being called the Athletics. This came as a result of the ownership change the team went under. With a major move to Las Vegas in 2028 on the horizon, Stephen Curry has come out with some heavy words. Taking the time to talk about his favorite MLB team and their turmoil, he had some heavy words to say.

Curry said, “I think overall, it’s it’s a sad situation because, you know, sports franchises in any city are to to borrow a line from a good friend of mine, it’s a sense of hope and inspiration for a community.” He went on to detail why Oakland meant so much to him over the past 10 years. He also touched on the massive void losing the Oakland Athletics will have.“You know, specifically just because of how how much, you know, history is around, you know, sports and that fandom and that sense of pride of being from Oakland.”

Recently, State Senate President Tem Don Perata had a similar reaction, calling the change a “slow death.” The overall response to the change has mainly been disheartening. After months of waiting, the time finally arrived for native fans to bid farewell to their hometown team. This was even more evident as negative chants to sell the team echoed during the recent season. However, this wouldn’t be the first time Curry has voiced his sorrow regarding losing the team.

Amid the dwindling number of fans showing up for the team’s last games, Curry expressed his opinion. While on ABC News, he said, “The community has something to look forward to and be proud of and bring out that Oakland pride.” This was in the context of keeping the A’s in Oakland.

Curry has had his roots in Oakland for quite some time till the 2018-19 season. Despite leaving his base for San Franciso, he continued to be vocal about the local team. Now, after fans have moved on from the Golden State Warriors departure, another tragedy struck.

While fans are unsure if the move to Las Vegas will happen in the future, it is clear that Curry and the fans are heartbroken. The words used by Curry paint a vivid picture of the importance the A’s have had on Oakland and their impact on the community.
