The NBA world has been turned upside down for the past few days. If the Kawhi Leonard issue wasn’t enough to bring bad light to the NBA, the latest FBI arrests have made a huge dent in the league’s reputation. While Brooklyn Nets’ star Michael Porter Jr. isn’t directly involved with his case, some revelations have been quite personal for the NBA forward. Even though all the headlines have been about Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier, and Damon Jones’ arrests, Porter Jr.’s brother, Jontay Porter, also had some eyes on him.

Last year, the former Toronto Raptors center pleaded guilty in federal court to a conspiracy to commit wire fraud in the betting case that got him banned from the NBA for life. Now months after this news first broke through, his brother and Brooklyn star, Michael Porter Jr., has finally opened up on the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast by Carmelo Anthony about the trouble he and his family had to face during those times.
“Family always comes first for me, so that was something I had to handle, but honestly, just to, like, learning how to go from high highs to low lows just through everything I’ve been through, I’ve been able to like callouse my mind to where, like, I just, like, life is life and good times. I’m cool, but also in bad times, I know how to stay pretty cool, and it was tough to see my family go through some of those things, especially my parents,“ he said.

“They raised all of us and such an amazing way. My mom homeschooled us, (and) my dad was a great father. So it was tough. A couple of the situations happened during the playoffs. I happened to go to the court courtroom and then go play a playoff game later that day. So that was tough, but athletes get really good at ignoring their feelings as well,” he further explained.

It is understandable how families become victims of a media witch hunt when a news story hits the headlines. The Brooklyn Nets forward’s parents, like many other parents, are not accustomed to the media attention. But having faced the media for a long time, Michael Porter Jr. told that he was able to deal with all this stuff once his brother was arrested.
The 27-year-old also explained that a trip to Thailand made him realize just how small his problems were compared to others when he struck up a conversation with underprivileged kids. However, even that didn’t help him as much as talking to his brother did.
Michael Porter Jr. finally understands his brother’s entire story after a long chat
One can only imagine the hardships that the Porter family had to go through during Jontay Porter’s arrest. However, in another interview with the New York Post, Brooklyn Nets star and Jontay’s brother, Michael Porter Jr., revealed how having a heart-to-heart with his brother helped him to understand his story and come to terms with the other aspects of it as well.

According to the six-foot-ten forward, the duo apparently sat down for a three-hour podcast, which hasn’t been released anywhere yet, as he learned more about his brother’s situation. “He recently actually got on my podcast. We haven’t put it out yet. We’re not able to put anything out at this time. But we did sit down to have a three-hour conversation,” he told The New York Post.

Porter further added, “It was like a therapy session for us because, as brothers, that was the first time we sat down and really had a full conversation about what really happened, him being super honest and transparent about the entire thing. And it was great.”
It felt so great to Porter Jr. because this was the first time since everything went down that he and his brother sat down to have a real one-on-one conversation. This conversation might have helped Porter Jr. understand the details, but the outside world is busy searching for the details of the findings. There’s no denying that there’s a lot of chatter around the league about Jontay and betting within the league in general following the latest series of arrests, but Michael Porter Jr. will now look to focus on the season ahead of him.
