It’s nearly impossible to accurately predict what’s going to happen in an NBA game. We can make an educated guess. But a guess is all it’ll be. After all, you’d need to be a psychic to have an ability like that. Even so, some predictions have an eerie and uncanny way of coming true. And Lakers legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson found this out the hard way after he made a prediction about Anthony Edwards ahead of tonight’s Playoff game 1 between the Lakers and Minnesota.

Anthony Edwards looked phenomenal against the Lakers tonight. Despite stars like Luka Doncic and LeBron James‘s presence, Ant-Man was arguably the best on the court tonight. His efficiency and offensive dominance were instrumental in helping the T-Wolves. But it seems Magic knew that Ant’s style would present problems to the Lakers.

“I’m scared for my Lakers because the game’s most exciting player, superstar Anthony Edwards, is a matchup problem,” wrote the Lakers legend. And he didn’t stop there. “If the Timberwolves beat my Lakers it’s because Naz Reid and Donte DiVenczo both have a big series,” he added in another tweet. And wow, Magic, you had no idea how right you were.

We told you, Anthony Edwards looked great tonight. But what makes this more impressive is the fact that Ant-Man played through an injury. In the closing minutes of the third quarter, a collision with Jarred Vanderbilt caused Ant some extreme discomfort in his left calf. However, he soon returned to the game to pick up where he left off. By the end. Ant had registered 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Moreover, another player whom Magic brought up, Naz Reid, was also part of the festivities tonight. He put up 23 points in 31 minutes, helping carry the offensive burden alongside Ant and Jaden McDaniels tonight.

Perhaps Magic will refrain from making any more predictions against the Lakers. Lest they should come true. However, there was simply no stopping Anthony Edwards tonight. He went ballistic despite his injury tonight. And after the game, he told us exactly what happened.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Anthony Edwards the new king on the court, overshadowing even LeBron and Luka tonight?

Anthony Edwards reveals the nature and extent of his injury

Late in the third quarter, with the Wolves rolling and Ant in full attack mode, he barreled into the paint like he always does—fearless and explosive. But this time, things took a scary turn. His layup attempt ended in a hard collision with Jarred Vanderbilt, and when Ant hit the floor clutching his foot, you could hear the collective gasp from Wolves fans everywhere.

Moments later, he limped off the court and straight into the locker room. The energy dipped, the momentum stalled—and for a moment, the entire arena held its breath.

But then, like something out of a superhero origin story, Ant came storming back. A few tense minutes and some quick treatment later, he was back on the court—locked in and ready to finish the job.

After the game, with the Wolves fresh off a dominant win over the Lakers, both Julius Randle and Edwards faced the media. And now we know—whatever scare Ant gave the fans, it wasn’t enough to keep him down.

A reporter asked Ant whether he had tweaked his knee or if it was another injury. Ant simply replied, “Just cramping, just cramping.” During the game, ESPN’s Shams Charania had reported the same thing as he revealed Ant was “dealing with a cramp and receiving treatment in the locker room.”

Losing Ant would’ve spelled disaster for the Timberwolves in the remaining games of the series. After all, despite the triumph, tonight was only game 1 in the series. Nonetheless, Timberwolves fans can take it easy now that they know Anthony Edwards will be okay. On the other hand, Magic Johnson will probably love to have his predictions proven wrong in the coming games.
