Amid retirement buzz every week, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James sent shockwaves throughout the entire NBA world on Monday evening. He tweeted a cryptic, 10-second short clip named “The Second Decision” with an even more mysterious caption, “coming soon,” attached to it. In the clip, James is seen entering a gym, making his way to a chair under the hoop, and sitting next to a reporter. As expected, this visual painted a picture in everyone’s head that he’s about to make a huge announcement related to basketball. And then he wakes everyone up to reality.

Many fans believed that the Akron Hammer might be announcing his retirement or even his next move within the NBA. However, James’ second decision wasn’t even related to hoops in the first place. The clip, which would’ve brought flashbacks to several, was just a clickbait to catch everyone’s attention for his partnership with Hennessy. The brand posted the entire clip in which the reporter is heard asking James, “LeBron, fans want to know where you’re taking your talents this year. What’s your decision?

The NBA superstar appeared to be struggling with an answer, adding another layer of mystery to the announcement before replying, “I’m taking my talents to Hennessy VSOP.” It’s safe to say that this wasn’t what most James fans and followers were expecting. That’s because fans were seen betting on what James’ second decision will be about, with the majority picking a deal with Prime or even retirement. However, no one saw this coming.

As expected, while some fans enjoyed getting trolled by the NBA superstars, a significant portion of them were left fuming. And the ones who did not find this campaign hilarious did not hesitate to let LeBron James know their disappointment.

Several people were so disappointed with the 40-year-old forward setting up the stage for what seemed like “The Decision” show, where he announced that he’ll be leaving Cleveland for Miami, that they used emojis and GIFs to express their feelings. An account commented on a GIF in which a movie character is seen taking off his cap and saying, “Boo this man! Boo!” This goes to show just how angry some of the fans were with Hennessy and the Lakers veteran’s gimmicks. The ad did gain traction, but not everyone is buying it. The idea.

However, it did not end there, as a fan speculated the massive cheque that the Akron Hammer might’ve received to trick millions into thinking that he was calling it quits. “This had to be $10M+ bro had half the heart debating his retirement for a Hennessy ad,” he said. Now, there’s no way to confirm how much money the Purple & Gold superstar is making or will be making from this new partnership. However, whatever the amount might be, it should at least be worth frustrating his fans, that’s for sure. Because Hennessy has got what they wanted, attention.
