The NBA is in chaos right now. With the regular season wrapped, the consequences of failure are coming down like cold rain. HCs felt the market crash as job loss for them is real. And in that shower, Mike Budenholzer now joins Michael Malone and Taylor Jenkins as the unrelenting business claims another managerial soul. ESPN’s Shams Charania dropped the news earlier today that Phoenix hit the eject button on their coach yet again after their disappointing run. This is the 3rd change of the top boss from 2023 for Phoenix. So, what’s next for the Suns? That remains unclear. But what fans are speculating could raise some concerns, not just for Kevin Durant but for LeBron James, too. Why? Let’s find out.

Soon after news of the dismissal broke, the internet went wild predicting the Suns’ next head coach. And one name that kept popping up more than most was Steve Nash. That could very well be a good decision, as Nash is the franchise’s former star. But it could also make Kevin Durant uncomfortable.

If you remember, it was Kevin Durant who reportedly wanted Steve Nash fired during their time with the Nets. The two allegedly couldn’t see eye to eye. Moreover, Nash is LeBron’s co-host on the Mind the Game podcast. The Lakers’ star finally found a new business partner after JJ Redick, and he likely wouldn’t want to lose Nash, too. Fans on social media were quick to react, with some even pleading for Steve Nash to take over the hot seat.

Fans poke LeBron James and Kevin Durant while pushing for Steve Nash as Suns coach

“We know what doing a podcast with Bron can do for you. So is Steve Nash going to be the Suns new HC?” one fan commented. LeBron previously co-hosted the show with JJ Redick, who, as we all know, is now the Lakers’ head coach. Some believe it was the 4x champion’s influence that helped seal that deal. Now, with Nash in the co-host seat, that same opportunity might just be knocking, according to the fan.

Could Steve Nash's return to the Suns ignite a new rivalry between Kevin Durant and LeBron James?

Someone had a similar sentiment — that Nash would be hoping to get a call for the Suns’ HC job after having a good relationship with LeBron. “Teams looking for a head coach. Steve Nash waiting this offseason after being on @mindthegamepod 😂,” they wrote, pairing it with a GIF of someone rubbing their hands and anxiously waiting.

Meanwhile, someone pointed out that this was the fourth coach in a row to be fired while coaching Kevin Durant. The first was Steve Nash in 2022, followed by Monty Williams the year Durant joined Phoenix, then Frank Vogel last season, and now, Mike Budenholzer. They even added some hilarious hashtags to their tweet: “Add Steve Nash in 2022 and that’s 4 straight Kevin Durant coaches that have all gotten sacked. #nooticing #coachkiller #GodsaveusfromKD.”

“Do y’all selves a favor and hire a coach who played basketball for this type of squad. Y’all need a brilliant creative coach,” a fan advised the team. Then they went on to suggest three names: “Steve Nash, Dantoni, Mark Jackson.” Nash was on the top of their list, like many others. Despite having Kevin Durant and Devin Booker on the team, the franchise couldn’t capitalize on their star power. The worst part? They couldn’t even make it to the postseason tournament, while majority owner Mat Ishbia had championship dreams.

“Willie Green – Jared Dudley – Mike Malone – Steve Nash Hire one of those four guys or this organization is unserious,” read one of the comments. There are rumors that the Pelicans might move on from HC Willie Green, but for now, they’re sticking with him. The fan took Mavs’ assistant coach, Dudley’s name, who could also be a contender, especially since things in Dallas continue to trend downward. Whereas Malone was recently fired by the Nuggets, so he could be another option. And, of course, this fan also had Steve Nash on their list of potential hires.

Even Kevin Durant’s future is up in the air. The franchise had already made him available without his knowledge during the previous trade window, as they badly wanted Jimmy Butler. Now, with many teams eyeing him and Ishbia’s relentless pursuit of a title, anything could happen.
