Throughout the summer, the biggest question that remained unanswered has been about Jonathan Kuminga’s future with the Golden State Warriors. For months, the player and the franchise have been engaged in a cold-war-like situation that seemed to have no end. However, at last, with the media day just a day’s length away, it seems like there has been a massive breakthrough in the situation. Well, not directly, but through a staggering update regarding the Dubs.

Well, this comes as a result of news that ESPN’s Shams Charania broke, which no one saw coming. The NBA Insider announced that the Warriors have agreed to a multi-year deal with former Boston Celtics big man and former NBA champion, Al Horford. “BREAKING: Free agent Al Horford has committed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN. After seven of the past nine years in Boston and winning the 2024 title, Horford will enter his 19th NBA season as the Warriors’ starting center,” he wrote.

The move was undoubtedly telegraphed, with Horford reportedly holding out for an actual offer from the Golden State Warriors, who the big man was known to have exclusively wanted. Although this in itself is fantastic news for the Dubs Nation, which has waited an entire summer for their team to make a move in the trade market, it also indicates that there has been some sort of resolution between Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State front office. That’s because the only reason that the franchise was not able to make any signings throughout the offseason was the 22-year-old’s contract situation.

So, there is a good chance that Mike Dunleavy and Co. have reached, or are close to reaching an agreement with Kuminga.

However, there hasn’t been any official word from the Warriors just yet. According to reports, while the team has agreed terms with Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton, the moves can only be made official once the front office sorts out a deal with Jonathan Kuminga. In fact, it’s only after that we’ll get to no the exact figures on Horford’s and other new additions’ contracts. That also appears to be on point with Sharania’s reporting, which is yet to be confirmed by an official source.

Nonetheless, it’s safe to say the front office is quite confident that there’ll be a resolution regarding Jonathan Kuminga. But how do things stand right now?

What’s the current situation between Jonathan Kuminga and the Warriors?

Until today, there have been several reports suggesting that the Golden State Warriors were in no discussions with Jonathan Kuminga. However, having said that, given that Dubs have agreed to deals with the likes of Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton, there’s no doubt that things have changed behind the curtain. However, the question is which deal have they agreed to?

Well, there are several options. Already, the franchise has offered a couple of deals to the talented youngster. These include a two-year $45 million deal and a three-year $75 million deal. While both are quite lucrative offers, the only problem with them is that both contracts include a team option for the final year, something that Jonathan Kuminga’s camp was reluctant to sign. In fact, this has been the biggest roadblock in the forward’s path to reaching an agreement.

Although the Golden State Warriors reportedly refused to include a player option, which Jonathan Kuminga asked for, there’s a slight chance that they might’ve budged from their stance and decided to include that. If that’s the case, then it would be the best-case scenario for Kuminga, as it would not only save him millions of dollars but also give him control over his future. However, there’s also a chance that he might have chosen the $7.9 million qualifying offer, which might be a risky bet.

Nonetheless, either way, we’ll get to know the whole truth in almost no time, with the team’s media day set to take place on Monday.
