Within the next two days, the NBA will be deep into the Playoffs action. As the clock ticks, every second leads to the ultimate fight for might. But before that, preps and intense ones have rolled out. The first in line are the LA Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves, who’d kick off soon. One thing is sure, this seven-game series is going to be dramatic because neither JJ Redick nor Chris Finch is going to let go with a tough matchup. Meanwhile, Bronny James has found himself in a new role, and an important one, might we add?
Since his debut in October 2024, Bronny’s pro basketball career has been a topic of discussion throughout the league. While criticisms came his way, support from fellow teammates and other veterans hasn’t left his side. Even JJ Redick has put his faith in the rookie guard. But now isn’t the time to mull over the future as the Wolves HC made an important revelation ahead of the Playoffs.
Coach Finch’s “familiarity” may or may not work against JJ’s mighty Lakers. Moreover, keeping Luka Doncic and LeBron James in check is the biggest task at hand for the Wolves’ head coach. But don’t worry, he has his scout team ready. He revealed to the media: “We have our scout team ready. Yeah, it’s hard to replicate everything he [Luka Doncic] does. We have Joe Ingles kind of simulating things, who gives us a comp on size and IQ for sure, but it’s certainly tough.”

The 6’8″ Australian shooting guard would be replicating the 6’6″ Slovenian point guard and play against the entire Wolves team to train themselves. It’s surely not easy because, well, let’s face it, Luka comes with an endless supply of tricks. And who knows what he’ll do next? Finch has yet to reveal who would be simulating LeBron James during the sessions.
But Bronny James? Oh, he’s been given a similar task. And to be honest, this might be the most important duty that the 20-year-old has been assigned in this league so far. Any guesses?
JJ Redick unveils crucial role for Bronny James ahead of the Playoffs
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin tweeted: “JJ Redick says Shake Milton and Bronny James split time playing the role of Anthony Edwards on the Wolves scout team at Lakers practice Wednesday.” What’s this supposed to mean? Simply put, James Jr. and Milton are going to take turns simulating Anthony Edwards for the scout team at the Lakers’ practice session on Wednesday. Now, can you deny that this might be one of the biggest duties and opportunities for the rookie guard? JJ Redick is aiming for the stars for sure!

But, at the same time, it wouldn’t be easy to replicate the 6’4″ All-Star guard. However, hoping for the best isn’t harmful at all. Meanwhile, Mike Conley, who’s been in the league for the last 18 seasons, has never faced LeBron James in the Playoffs. So, there is definitely excitement for the first round matchup.
