An unassuming offseason workout between Jimmy Butler and Golden State Warriors guard Buddy Hield inflamed chat feeds with something unexpected: Humor, timing, and a reminder that even offseason routines can turn into storylines. The clip, showing the two quietly putting up shots in a quiet gym, came with not much energy, but plenty of potential for chatter, as Draymond Green chimed in with a rather funny personal invitation.
On September 4, warriorstalk took to Threads to share behind-the-scenes video, captioned, “Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield got in an offseason workout session together 💯”. Promptly, Green, channeling his typical self, commented, “What a s—- workout… come on back to the west, Jimbo. You don’t like Buddy anyway.” But, before you start reading too much in between the lines, let’s be clear: Hield and Butler are actually very good friends in real life—of course, with a dash of playful rivalry, mainly from the latter.
Hilariously, Butler never leaves a chance to troll his teammate. Remember when Butler was sidelined with a pelvic contusion during the Warriors’ Game 3 vs the Rockets during the first-round playoff series? After the 104-93, he had cheekily written on Instagram, “Thanks Batman and team. Except Buddy.” A few days later, after the team had pulled off a series-clinching 103-89 over the Rockets in Game 7, topped off by Hield’s game-high 33 points, Butler was asked if he was ready to finally acknowledge his teammate. “I plead the Fifth,” the player had deadpanned. While he later appreciated Hield’s performance, that doesn’t make the dynamic any less entertaining. But what about Hield? Does he hate Butler just as much? Well, beyond the “comedic chemistry”, the love is there.

During an appearance on 95.7 The Game in May, the Bahamian superstar had admitted, “I was a big fan of Jimmy [before he was traded to the Warriors]. I always loved Jimmy. My mom loves Jimmy. I just love the way he competes and the way he carries himself. That was big. I just know that when he came here he was easy to get along with. That’s what I love about him…He’s a great connector, he’s a great team guy. Off the court, he’s a great guy that I’ve hung out with. He invites me to his house, we go to dinners, he takes care of me.” The camaraderie also reflects on the court.

Draymond’s Global Tour and Buddy Hield’s Playoff Peaks and Pivots
Draymond Green isn’t just stirring online chatter; he’s taking it global. Before training camp, he’s bound for China to headline a “100-point, 1-on-1 amateur game,” coupled with promotional commitments: business as usual in Green’s repertoire of showmanship. Yet, as he balances brand-building with team responsibilities, questions naturally arise: will his global commitments dilute his preseason impact, or sharpen the edge he’s long been known for? Only time will tell.
Having said that, amid the theater, expectations remain sharp, especially on Buddy Hield, whose volatility ranged from 33-point game in a do-or-die Game 7 to a near-vanishing act in the conference semifinals: just 2-for-9 from the field and scoreless from deep in Game 5. Many opined that in a Warriors ecosystem built around Stephen Curry’s brilliance, Draymond’s edge, and Butler’s versatility, Hield remains both an X-factor and a question mark. Do you agree?
