“There’s been a lot of talk and false narratives around my name this offseason,” Jalen Duren said.

Duren’s comments came after weeks of talk about his contract and future. Although his new contract ended the uncertainty about his immediate future, Duren wanted to address the stories surrounding him.

“Detroit has become my home. I’ve built lifelong bonds with the people here,” Duren said.

“Yeah it was great. they were just kind of reiterating you know, the love they have for me and the importance I had to the team and just, just staying in touch you know staying in touch with my mental and making sure everything was cool…,” Duren said.

The experience was not easy, but Duren believes it helped him grow as a person. “I’m a firm believer and it was already written you know, so it was, it was everything that I’ve been through was on was, was for a purpose you know, and I truly believe like I said, it was to make me better. I had to go through some of these things the good, the bad, the ugly you know to be able to make me the man that I would become,” Duren said. 

He explained that he sees a reason behind the good and bad moments he faced during the offseason.

With his contract talks over, Duren can now focus on the upcoming season with Detroit. He also spoke positively about the team’s new additions, including Torrey Craig, Taurean Prince, Isaiah Joe, and John Collins.

Detroit will need Duren to continue playing at a high level. He averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season. He also earned his first All-Star selection and a place on the All-NBA Third Team.
