In the midst of an already failed season, the Memphis Grizzlies received more bad news. The Western Conference team will be without its star, Ja Morant, for at least two weeks. The NBA star has been out of the Grizzlies’ lineup since Jan. 21, when the team played against the Atlanta Hawks. He had suffered a UCL sprain and has been out since then. The latest update had Memphis fans concerned for the All-Star player.

According to the team’s statement, Morant is still experiencing discomfort in the injury area. “Morant underwent follow-up imaging yesterday, which showed incomplete healing of the injury,” the statement from the Grizzlies said. Memphis has just 21 games left in the season and is six wins behind the 10th-ranked team. Even his return won’t make much difference to their season from the bottom.

Ja has appeared in just 20 games this season, and his absence has largely been due to injuries. One of the games he missed this season was due to suspension. The Grizzlies had suspended him after his altercation with the head coach, Tuomas Iisalo.

Since then, the relationship between the team and its star player has been at an all-time low. The latest update from the team had fans convinced there was more to the report than the statement suggested.

Grizzlies fans dig deeper into Ja Morant’s “two weeks” absence after the latest injury update

It’s been well over a month since Morant has been out. Despite the Grizzlies claiming that the imaging showed the injury was not yet fully healed, the fans accused the team of “lying.” According to the Cleveland Clinic, the non-surgical treatment of UCL injury can take from 4 to 12 weeks. He might miss some more games after two weeks.

In the last three seasons, Morant has missed 65% of his games, including the 2023-24 season, when he played just 9 games. In three seasons so far, he has appeared in just 146 of the 225 games. Moreover, despite his athleticism, he has never reached 70 games in a season.

As big and electric a star as he is, Morant’s absence has barely done justice to the talent that he possesses. “I forgot Ja Morant plays basketball. Feels like he hasn’t played in 5 years,” an upset fan wrote.

In the last few years, Morant has also been in controversy over issues away from the basketball court. The NBA has already suspended him twice for flashing a gun in public. A few years ago, he was accused of punching a teen and had to appear in court. The fans already seem frustrated with him, and one even demanded that the Grizzlies “just cut him.”

When the trade deadline approached, Morant was one of the two big stars with Giannis Antetokounmpo available in the trade market. The Grizzlies had made it clear that they were ready to ship for the right offer.

However, the right offer was never made, and Morant remains in Memphis. The reports suggested that not many teams were interested in Morant. However, with the broken relationship with his team, for a fan, “Ja being shut down is the most expected outcome, so this isn’t shocking.”

One of the biggest injury news stories has come from Boston. As the Boston Celtics have listed him as questionable for the Dallas Mavericks game, Jayson Tatum is expected to make his return in the same contest. While Tatum’s return from the devastating injury is surprising, it was hard for some Memphis fans not to compare the two stars.

“Get this bi**h out of Memphis. I’m sick of this dude. How the hell does Jayson Tatum come back before him?” a livid fan wrote.

The Grizzlies might bring Morant back before the season ends. His stock has fallen rapidly over the last few years and is at its lowest point. There is a higher chance that the team might ship him during the offseason. A few games might help him restore his value in the future.
