There’s no doubt Gabe Vincent’s been the ideal citizen in LA—overlooked, underappreciated, but always a pro’s pro. He fits the bill perfectly as a rotational piece, the kind every contending roster needs. But championship material? That’s a subjective call—and clearly not one the Lakers are rushing to make. His future’s hung in the balance for a while now. And just when you thought things would cool down, Gabe’s gone and done something wild. Unthinkable, even. And guess who’s not having any of it? Gilbert Arenas. Yep, the former Wizard isn’t biting his tongue this time either.
Say goodbye to the braids and that signature beard—Gabe’s just pulled a complete 180 on us. He’s rocking a fresh afro, clean-shaven face, and walking around like he owns the place. It’s bold, unexpected, and oozing confidence. Whether it’s a rebrand or a mindset shift, one thing’s clear: Gabe’s cooking something new. But it doesn’t fit Arenas’ pallate. The man really, really hates it. And there’s no better way to put it.
“Finally, yo—Gabe, get the f–k on, man. We been sick of you, dog. Sayonara.” Feels a bit too much, doesn’t it? It might make sense considering him being a fan of the Showtime. But he didn’t stop there. “We finally got rid of this YMCA Shamar-looking dude and we got a respectable n—a we can trust. Okay. Good riddance,” continued Arenas on his Instagram.

Gabe Vincent debuted his new look while announcing a skills clinic in Santa Barbara, and it instantly set social media buzzing. Gone were the signature braids and beard—replaced by a clean shave and bold afro. As a proud UCSB alum, he looked genuinely thrilled to give back to his old stomping grounds. But the reception? Well, not everyone was on board. Gilbert Arenas didn’t hold back his thoughts, and plenty of fans chimed in with mixed reactions. Vincent clearly feels confident, and that counts for something. Still, in the NBA world, even a haircut can stir up a bit of drama.
You can’t help but feel bad for the 29-year-old. It’s already tough that the Lakers might waive him for just about anyone who can boost their championship run in what could be LeBron James’ final year as the King. So this was the last thing he’d need in the midst of an uncertain future.

Lakers Urged to Waive Gabe Vincent
There’s no doubt the LakeShow are still miles away from that elusive 18th banner. Deandre Ayton helps, and so will Bron’s eventual loyalty confirmation. But it’s not enough—not yet. Word is, they might need to waive either Gabe Vincent or Maxi Kleber to land Nikola Vucevic, who could hit free agency soon. Unlike other contenders, the Lakers can only offer him a veteran minimum deal, meaning they’ll need to clear space. According to Trevor Lane of LakersNation, that might come at the cost of Vincent or Kleber. Tough decisions are brewing in LA—and time’s running out fast.

“One option could be to waive and stretch the salary of Gabe Vincent or Maxi Kleber. You can do that with either guy,” he said. “So the question becomes: would that be the preferred path rather than give up that second-round pick, have $3.6 million in dead money sitting on your books?”

God forbid a man tries something different, and the world hounds him for it. Gabe Vincent’s rocking a whole new vibe now—fresh afro, clean shave, and that same calm confidence. He’s still a true pro and very much part of the Showtime fabric. But in this league? Stability’s a myth. With trade rumors swirling and roster spots up for grabs, Vincent’s future might shift in a heartbeat. Whether it’s fan backlash to his look or front-office speculation, the man can’t catch a break. And just like that, the new look might become the least surprising change in his offseason.
