Detroit Pistons have been one of the worst teams in the NBA for the past few seasons. They’ve struggled to pick up wins on a consistent basis, remaining mired in relative obscurity within the league. But now, the franchise loyalists are beginning to voice their displeasure regarding the current predicament of their beloved team. And it all came to a head on 9th March.

During their 142-124 loss to Dallas Mavericks, Pistons’ GM Troy Weaver got into a heated altercation with a fan who heckled, “You suck at your job,” at him. Weaver reacted in a rather aggressive manner by asking the security to remove the fan from the arena. He allegedly also said, “Lucky I don’t beat your a**,” to the fan. This altercation has sparked a fierce debate online, with many siding with the fan because of Weaver’s poor management of the Pistons.

Pistons brought Weaver on board in 2020 with hopes of leading the organization into a new era of success following a mediocre Blake Griffin era. However, during his four-year reign, the Pistons have shown no signs of improvement. In fact, they have never finished above 14th spot in the Western Conference standings during Weaver’s reign.

However, Detroit Pistons have hit a new low this season. They created history by becoming the first team to go on a 28-game losing streak in a single season. They share the record for the longest losing streak with Philadelphia 76ers, although the 76ers achieved this feat over two seasons rather than one. Despite Detroit’s current predicament, several fans believe that good times might be right around the corner.

Can Detroit Pistons bounce back?

At the moment, hopes of a revival seem outlandish, considering Detroit’s historically poor performance during the 2023-24 season. However, Pistons possess exciting young players who could lead the organization into a new era of success. Players like Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey, and Aasur Thompson are all under the age of 23.
