It’s been weeks since the Los Angeles Clippers abruptly sent soon-to-be Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul home. Since then, the 40-year-old veteran has been linked with several franchises, but none of those moves have materialized into anything. Amid this, many started to speculate that, as heartbreaking as an end it might be, the Point God might just call it quits, but that’s not what he thinks.

On the contrary, CP3 believes he still has a lot to offer both on and off the court to the sport he loves so much.

“I just love this game so much that I don’t want it to end like that… I don’t know what team I hope to finish with,” Paul said recently via the Good Sports with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson show.

This statement by Paul puts all the rumors suggesting that his days in the NBA are done to rest. However, while this confirms that we will get to see Chris Paul play for a few more times before the end of what is supposed to be his final season in the league, it raises a major question: For which team will he play the remainder of the season?

As of right now, CP3 remains under contract with the Clippers. He can either get traded to a team before the February 5th trade deadline or get released by the Clippers, something that everyone thought would be executed by the storied franchise as soon as Paul became trade-eligible back on December 15th. However, that didn’t happen.

Now, no one truly knows why the Clippers did not release Chris Paul, given that they have already cut ties with the veteran point guard and could use a free roster spot to acquire someone else. Nonetheless, despite the delay, it seems like Paul might finally be on his way out of Los Angeles and wrap up his career somewhere else as an opportunity in New Orleans emerges.

New Orleans could be a perfect landing spot for Chris Paul

The Los Angeles Clippers have been trying to ship Chris Paul to another team for some time now, following their ugly split. However, they’ve been unsuccessful in doing so until now. That’s because, according to NBA reporter Chris Lambert, believes that thr New Orleans Pelicans could solve both the Clippers’ and Chris Paul’s problems.

He thinks that the Pelicans could sign Paul, which would be a win-win situation for everyone involved. That’s because not only will LA free up a roster spot, which is what they are in dire need of, but CP3 will get a proper farewell from a franchise where he played some of his best basketball from 2005 to 2011.

Paul was one of, if not the best, players for the Pelicans during those years. So, bringing him back to New Orleans, a place where he is widely respected and loved for the remainder of his farewell tour, will be a great story. Moreover, this trade not only makes sense from an emotional standpoint but also from a sporting standpoint as well.

That’s because Chris Paul will also bring in his years of experience and could help the likes of rookie guard Jeremiah Fears and others. He’s already nurtured several stars, all the way from shaping up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s legacy in OKC to extending his support to Victor Wembanyama and Co. in San Antonio for a couple of years. So, why can’t Paul do the same in New Orleans, right?

So, this should be a move worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks, as the trade market continues to heat up before the February deadline.
