Jaxson Hayes’ playoff return took a volatile turn Saturday night, not because of his play, but because of a hot mic threat directed at Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. Jaxson Hayes played 13 minutes for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Houston Rockets in Game 1. American Twitch streamer Joshua Maynard, aka YourRAGE, caught a moment while streaming the game on his channel. Hayes stood on the sidelines while a member of the medical staff attended to his right arm. Meanwhile, the streamer caught the 25-year-old saying: “I’m gonna hit Jabari Smith in the face, y’all hear it, ima smack the f— out of him.”

The raw, unfiltered threat from Hayes created a shocking courtside moment that immediately went viral. The tense atmosphere ratcheted up when Hayes, fresh off an injury, was overheard threatening Jabari Smith Jr. Jaxson Hayes is coming off a foot injury from early April 2026. This was listed as left foot soreness or foot injury, causing him to miss the Los Angeles Lakers’ final four regular-season games.

Fans online started commenting, “Wouldn’t be the first time he smacked someone in the face.” Well, the audience did dig into the Lakers’ big man’s past. Remember, Jaxson Hayes faced a one-game suspension in February after pushing the Washington Wizards mascot, G-Wiz, during pre-game introductions. At the same time, fans got truly creative, and used GIFs to explain the probable situation.

However, some fans questioned the clip’s authenticity, suggesting the streamer might have misheard Hayes. As for the game itself, both players had their moments on the court, but the Lakers pulled away for a 107–98 win as the Rockets took the loss.

While Hayes made a small but efficient impact in his 13 minutes (4 points on 1-1 shooting), Smith Jr. shouldered a much heavier load for Houston. He finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in 43 minutes but struggled with efficiency, shooting just 35.7% from the field.

Now, speaking of the game. The Los Angeles Lakers’ offense was the story of their 107–98 win, as they shot a blistering 60.6% from the field and moved the ball effectively for 29 assists. Despite some sloppy turnovers, their efficiency and shot-making proved too much for the Rockets to handle.

The Rockets’ struggles were rooted in poor shooting, as they converted just 37.6% of their field goals. Even though they dominated the offensive glass with 21 boards and created extra chances, they couldn’t overcome their scoring inefficiency.

While the Lakers take Game 1, the bigger storyline now is whether the tension between Hayes and Smith Jr. carries over into the rest of the series.
