When Rajah Caruth watched Lightning McQueen speed across the screen in Cars, he knew one thing: he wanted to race. But he didn’t grow up in a racing family nor start karting when he was five. Unlike most names you’d see in the leaderboard today, he took the “digital” route, learning the craft through iRacing to become the protégé of the most powerful man in the sport, Rick Hendrick. But even with the “Hendrick” stamp of approval, he is finding it difficult to navigate in this cutthroat NASCAR world, and some of it could be on how it all started.

“We’re still selling sponsorship. It’s not easy by any means,” . And it’s not easy from that side of things. Side of, obviously, the differences in the organizations and the resources.”
Now, on the surface, the optics of Caruth’s 2026 season look like bliss. He has a full-time ride in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, split between two teams. He is running 23 races with JR Motorsports in the iconic No. 88 Chevy. It’s the same car shared by Cup Series icons. However, the remaining 10 races are where the issue lies.
There he is piloting the No. 32 for Jordan Anderson Racing (JAR). Plus, he has already got top 10 finishes in three of the four starts, hopping from No. 88 to No. 32 Chevy. Also, he’s placed 7th in the overall points standing. But the truth is, beyond the support of Rick Hendrick, he is facing a harsh reality.

While HendrickCars.com anchors his JR Motorsports starts, the funding for those other 10 races remains uncertain. Caruth himself admitted, “We’re still fighting to get the rest of the 10 races sold, like, I guess not now,” meaning every lap he runs is also part of the sponsorship search.
This is the ugly side of a sport where merit is often sidelined for marketability. On one hand, you have a YouTube star who can secure his ride with a Tier 1 team like RCR. Meanwhile, a talented driver like Rajah Caruth is left scrambling in search of support. And you can backtrack, and it might all come down to pedigree.
Because he started late, he doesn’t have that history with sponsors that some of his peers do. Whilst he is racing to get that attention from sponsors, other drivers already come from racing backgrounds and also have had “family sponsors” for a long time. Plus, the difficulty is also that he is essentially racing in two different worlds.
In JRM, one can say he is in the Ivy League, racing with top-class cars, and the expectation is always a trophy. In JAR, things are different, given that they simply don’t have the resources like JRM.
Having said that, he thanked Rick Hendrick and his wife for their ‘amazing’ support and for keeping him ’employed. Caruth then expressed his gratitude towards Chevrolet for acting as a bridge to get him to Jordan Anderson. “Having the support of Mr. H and Linda has been amazing, and that partnership has kept me employed and given me opportunities to chase my dreams,” Caruth added.
Now HendrickCars.com would’ve funded Caruth’s ride, but the No. 88 JRM Chevy is a shared ride, which is filled up by HMS Cup drivers. So it is a difficult situation right now for the young driver, despite all the support.
“The hard part hasn’t been the competition, the hard part is selling the sponsors, making sure I had a ride and making sure that Jordan have the funds in place to be able to get the cars out on the track and compete,” he concluded.
Rajah Caruth’s expectations in 2026
With eight top 10 finishes, four inside the top 5, and one win, Rajah Caruth impressed everyone with his talent and skill in the 2025 Truck Series campaign. This earned him a promotion to the O’Reilly Series with JR Motorsports, one of the most successful organizations in NASCAR’s second tier.
Caruth was announced to run 23 races with JRM and 10 with Jordan Anderson Racing. But despite the fact that he’s having two runs in two separate outfits along with his sponsorship issues, he claimed he’ll ‘get the most out of the car’, regardless of it being a JRM car or a Jordan Anderson car. In fact, for JRM, Caruth has some pretty high goals:
“[With JRM], we expect to win and run up front. There is no reason why I can’t go and be competitive in the 32 car as well. I’m going to be working, putting my all in. There is no doubt in my mind that whatever car I’m in, I’m going to get the most out of it,” he said, according to NASCAR.
For the 2026 season, he has a more mature mindset. Caruth claimed he’d trust himself more, work hard in the simulator more, be more involved with his team, and not compare himself to other people.
