Since 2013, when Joey Logano joined Team Penske for NASCAR Cup series as a 22-year-old, he has seen many things change around him. One face, however, was always there. That was the IndyCar series veteran of 17 years, Will Power. Although competing in different series, the golden duo of Roger Penske was always connected with their hunger to win and well, laugh. And that chemistry was visible even in their garage trivial activities, whether it was a drawing challenge or a blind taste test. However, with the season wrapped up, Team Penske’s garage might turn a little solemn.

After Nashville Superspeedway season finale, everyone shared hugs and tears as the team knew it would be Power’s last race with them. Power emerged as Andretti Global’s next driver in 2026, stepping into the No. 26 Honda seat as Colton Herta makes his own leap to Formula 1 testing. And as the veteran leaves his spot in Team Penske, although the two compete in different series, the now-35-year-old Logano has shared a crucial memory with him.

When Joey Logano sat down with FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, out of curiosity, the host asked him about his interaction with Power. Smiling, Logano said, Yeah, in a way this makes me the senior driver of the whole place at this point, but I love Will. Will’s a great person. He’s a great human. He did some incredible things over his time at Team Penske, Indy 500 and championships.

I always remember the moment where we both won the championship in the same year and we had a victory party for all of Team Penske and he was up there playing the drums. We were singing, ‘We are the Champions’ together on stage. Like that was really one of the coolest memories for me. So he’s been a lot of fun. I learned a lot from him. I know he’s going to end up in a good place, I’m sure. He’s been a great asset to Team Penske for many, many years. And, obviously all our best wishes are for him and his family moving forward.”

In 2022, Logano claimed the NASCAR Cup Series title, sealing it with a dramatic victory at Phoenix Raceway. Then, IndyCar icon Power captured his second IndyCar series championship that fall. The two wins created an unprecedented “title double” for Penske’s racing empire. While that was one of the highlights of his career under Penske banner, Power has accomplished much more in that team.

Since 2009 when he first joined Team Penske, Power has won the 2018 Indy 500, 2014 and 2022 IndyCar championships, and stands with an astounding 71 poles. Power is also fourth on the all-time list with 45 career victories, 42 of them under the Penske banner. To teammates, he wasn’t just a fast driver; he was a benchmark, the kind of athlete who shaped how the team races, pushes, and wins.

In the announcement, Roger Penske too shared his thoughts about the departure. As we sat down to talk about our future together, Will felt that it was time for him to make a change beginning with next season. He has been an outstanding driver and teammate for our organization. His results speak for themselves, and we wish him the very best in the next phase of his career.” Furthermore, teammate Josef Newgarden, too, spoke about Power.

“I can just tell you that I love Will Power. He has been one of my favorites, if not my favorite teammate that I’ve ever had the chance of working with. He is a hero of mine. I grew up admiring Will Power and I love the guy. He is absolutely one of the best.” After the season finale, his longtime engineer David Faustino concluded the run by saying, “It’s the end of an era.”

What’s your perspective on:

Will Power's exit: A new era for Team Penske or a loss they can't recover from?

Have an interesting take?

Although the team has stated that they will announce Power’s replacement before the 2026 season, it is expected that David Malukas will be named to the No. 12 Chevrolet. For now, the team and Joey Logano will miss the presence of the driver like Will Power who packs up a storied IndyCar career with him.
