“Operator: Can you tell me exactly what happened?

Speaker: I’ve got an individual that’s short of breath, very hot, thinks he’s going to pass out, and he’s producing a little bit of blood, coughing up some blood.

Operator: How old is this person? Is he awake?

Speaker: He is awake; he is on the bathroom floor right now. So when you come here, can you turn the sirens off? So when you come into the main entrance of the building, the closest way to get to it is to go to the left… I will out here waiting… And I will flag them down; there’s a side door on the other side of the building.

“Operator: Okay, we got them coming out there, just nothing else for them to eat or drink. If he gets worse anyway, just call us back. What was the exact name of your business back there?

Speaker: It’s called the GM Charlotte Technical Center. It’s close to Hendrick Motorsports.

Operator: Okay, we will let EMS know we got them coming out there.”

The identity of the caller is yet to be revealed, but this didn’t lead to a response by the Busch family or NASCAR. RCR has been respectful to their star driver and his family during this difficult period.

“On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy and continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.”

This tragedy is being tied to the first incident at Watkins Glen, when Busch complained about sinus issues. He asked his team to find Dr. Bill Heisel, a physician who works with NASCAR drivers. Despite the issues, he finished 8th at the Glen, and the following week, he even won a Truck Series race at Dover. And things took a turn for the worse on May 21, when RCR announced that Busch would miss the Coca-Cola 600 and had been hospitalized due to a “severe illness”. Just three hours after that, NASCAR delivered the most heartbreaking news about Rowdy’s demise.

Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR have been in touch with the Busch family and extended their support. “Samantha, Brexton, and Lennix are not just family of a NASCAR legend. They are a part of the NASCAR family, and they always will be. Because that’s what family does,” NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell said.

Meanwhile, RCR decided to honor Rowdy’s legacy by retiring the No. 8 car. “Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR’s stylized No. 8, and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry. No one can carry it forward to the level that he did. The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing.”

For Busch, his long-time plan was to retire from racing only when his son Brexton is of age. Despite his Cup racing career going through a rough patch, he enjoyed being a part of Brexton’s racing journey. They had their most memorable moment together after B-Rex won the Golden Driller at Tulsa Shootout.

The Rowdy Nation was eagerly looking forward to Kyle Busch’s performance this weekend. Busch had previously visited the Coca-Cola 600 victory lane in 2018. It was a special race for him as it allowed him to claim the title of becoming the only driver in NASCAR to win at every track he has raced at in the Cup Series.

After his latest victory, Kyle Busch had an emotional message for his fans, saying he cherished every victory because there was no guarantee when the last one would be, “You never know when it is your last one.” As NASCAR mourns the loss of one of its best drivers across all three series, it is difficult not to revisit his quotes from victory lane.
